DU'er Prophet 451 has passed away.
It was sudden and shocking, but painless--Nick stopped breathing in his sleep and his long-time life partner found him a little while ago. The paramedics tried to revive him, but he was already gone. Right now she is trying to cope with the grief and panic of the immediate moment. They are British, and they did not have much income. I think Nick was receiving some sort of disability pension.
He was my friend for many, many years even before I found DU. His partner is a dear friend too. Please keep her and his family in your thoughts. He will be missed more than I can even express.

I remember Prophet 451, we had a few discussions about beliefs.. He was an amazing, well spoken and very intelligent person. I'm so sad now

I never interacted with him but I agreed wholeheartedly with many of his posts, he seemed like such a nice guy. He'll be missed.
We have lost too many good people here lately.
I have been thinking about Nick all day. I was pretty depressed most of the morning and then I remembered some of the IM exchanges we had on FB and it made the rest of the day a little easier. I'm so grateful that I found him on FB, I treasure the massive number of IMs we exchanged and I am happy that he is out of his pain. I will miss our talks about various crimes, television shows and just being able to talk to him.
My heart goes out to Kat, please let her know that he will be missed. I will keep her in my heart.
I think both Lyric and i are still in a daze... feeling helpless with that damned ocean in the way of being able to do much to help.
I walked around in a daze most of today. I had meant to IM him this weekend about the new Jack the Ripper theory and his thoughts on "River" with Stellan Skarsgaard. The only reason I was waiting until this weekend was so we could get into one of our IM marathons.
I never met Nick in person but I felt like I had a real friend and his passing has had a profound effect on me.
I know it is silly but another friend posted a video of how I saw Nick. I reposted it on my FB page and tagged you and Lyric. To me, he was generous with his time, his thoughts and even though he didn't have a lot, he gave me so much.
to you, Lyric, Kat and everyone else whose life he made better.

Last weekend, someone at the pub had mentioned the 'Jack the Ripper' thing, and in that discussion i had told my co-worker that i needed to ask Nick his thoughts on it, because he knew more about the Whitechapel Murders than any 10 people i know, and would have a better understanding...
And now that hangs here...
