That bright light you saw in the West was not a fireball.

Update: Bright light seen in skies from Arizona to Southern California confirmed by John Wayne Airport tower as Naval test fire - @10NewsPhillips, @OCSD

What I want to know is, was the track of the fire?
Is the Navy firing things into the US from the Pacific???

Here is a page with several twitter photos and a video of it:

San Diego Union-Tribune has details:

It scared a lot of people. One video on YouTube had the filmers wondering if they were about to see the end of the world. Lots of others thought it was a UFO, or a meteor.

FYI for the next 6 nights the military is reserving air space off Los Angeles and diverting all flights into LAX to the east, so must be something big going down.

A group of friends and I saw that from a park in Palmdale, CA. It appeared to be due West of us, over the Pacific.

Scaring the shit out of all of LA. Wasting the time of 911 operators getting all these calls. Doing this stuff unannounced is socially irresponsible.

given that the fireballs were predicted, so people were looking for them.

There are pics on you tube of objects like these causing bewilderment in Russia, , but the Russian Gov has claimed they WERE meteors.
Not with that signature they aren't, and now we know that.
sadly, people in teh Middle East recognize these right away, but we have had little experience here.
After Twitter roaming last night, I feel more educated.
