... Marksville Police Chief Elster Smith said Friday afternoon that he had placed three of the men, who are full-time Marksville Police Officers, on administrative leave. The fourth, who is a reserve Marksville Police Officer, is on leave from that position.
The fourth also is a full-time Alexandria City Marshal; calls to that agency Friday were not answered.
Smith identified the men as a lieutenant with 13 years in his department; a lieutenant with eight years and a sergeant with five years.
A decision has not yet been made as to whether the men will be on paid leave or unpaid leave, the chief said ...

State Police investigators tried to interview four Marksville City Marshals the night of the shooting that left a child dead, but they refused to be interviewed, a spokesman said Friday.

... City Marshal Floyd Voinche Sr. was not at the press conference, but he issued a statement Friday, calling Jeremy's death "tragic," but insisted that Louisiana law allowed his deputy marshals "to write traffic tickets, make arrests and preserve the peace."
But Marksville Mayor John Lemoine disagrees. In a letter to the Louisiana Attorney General's Office dated Sept. 1, Lemoine asked for an opinion on whether the marshals had the authority to issue tickets within the city limits of Marksville without approval of the Marksville City Council.
"We have reason to believe that the Ward 2 Marshal is issuing tickets inside the city limits without consent or approval of the Marksville City Council," reads Lemoine's letter. "We understand why the State Police can issue tickets without the approval of the Marksville City Council, but we are asking if the Ward 2 Marshal has the authority to issue tickets within the city limits without the approval of the Marksville City Council?"

... Dr. L.J. Mayeux, coroner of Avoyelles Parish, said Few had warrants out for his arrest. Ward 2 City Marshal deputies reportedly spotted Few's vehicle on Washington Street and initiated a stop. Instead of pulling over, officials say Few led deputies on a chase through Marksville, finally turning down Martin Luther King Drive, which is a dead end street.
WAFB checked with the Clerk of Court, the District Attorney's Office, Marksville Police Department and City Court and we did not find any outstanding warrants for Few. Col. Mike Edmonson said so far, their investigation shows the same.
Mayeux added Few backed into the marshal's vehicle several times and would not get out and that is when the gunfire erupted. Officials initially stated there was an "exchange of gunfire" during the incident. During a news conference on Thursday, Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson said no gun was found in Few's vehicle ...
Col. Edmonson said there is also no evidence, at this time, that Few backed into the deputy's vehicle. The Marshal's office has two vehicles. The one involved in Tuesday's shooting had a dent left in the vehicle ...
