Because old white seniors (especially property owners) are the most reliable voting block (those who grew up when civic engagement was more popular, and that have the time to be civically engaged), as well as all the other fear driven right wingers.
Why isn't our side passionate? Is it because we aren't on the defensive like they are? Or that Democrats, especially young and minorities don't see how the political system can benefit them?

(1,958 posts)He was a computer geek. He did not 'get' my interest in politics. I lost touch with him. I wonder if has ever voted.
A few years later, I had a co-worker in his late 30s (about a decade older than me) who also revealed he had never voted in an election. He didn't discuss politics either.
I just don't understand their apathy.
Then, there are those who seem to ne into politics, but do not vote. I read somewhere that Rush Limbaugh's first vote for a presidential candidate was for H.W. Bush in 1988. His excuse was that he was always moving in previous election years (PA, MO, CA). Hell, when I was 20 I got an absentee ballot so I could vote in my home presinct.)

I can no longer canvas door to door but I do volunteer to go to a call center to GOTV. The only problem is that we Dems are so strong in my ward that it is almost impossible to find someone who isn't gonna or hasn't already VOTED!
It's a great problem to have, isn't it?
