(CNN) - CNBC has agreed to limit its Republican primary debate later this month to two hours, acquiescing to the demands of Donald Trump and other GOP campaigns, CNN has confirmed.

A source with knowledge of the decision said the Republican National Committee was putting in calls to the campaigns on Friday morning to inform them of the new format, which will cap the debate to two hours, including commercials.

Early Friday morning, Trump tweeted that CNBC had agreed to limit the Oct. 28 debate to two hours.

"Fantastic news for all, especially the millions of people who will be watching!" he wrote.

The move comes after Trump and Ben Carson threatened to pull out of the faceoff in Boulder, Colorado, if the hosts didn't agree to their demands.

Too long for the viewers and too long for the candidates. 2.5 hours would have been a little better, but 2 hours is good. Just have more debates.

might swallow the loss in order to help move Trump and Carson out of front place. Maybe they figured it'd backfire, but it seems like a lost opportunity. Not exactly our problem.

it would have provided a better forum for them and eliminate the focus on Trump - who mugs for the camera and hogs the conversation.

The debates on both sides need to be removed from cable corporate control into a public control. I actually agree with Trump and Carson about stupid rules, rules which seem designed to increase ad revenue. The same thing is happening on both sides now. The corporate masters are getting their way, and the people are getting screwed out of listening to a reasonable debate that is not politically motivated by the people who are putting on the debate and hosting it. There aren't going to be fair and accessible debates on either side if this shit keeps up.
