In 2012, the parties and political groups will be reaching out to certain demographics, so these lists could come in handy for them. I watch The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Office, SNL, Parks & Rec, Modern Family, and Conan religiously, but I'll watch Pawn Stars or Mythbusters if I see they're on.

(14,040 posts)On either list... What I do watch is:
The Good Wife
Dexter
Boardwalk Empire
Nurse Jackie
Blue Bloods
Lost Girl (Canadian TV show)
dipsydoodle
(42,239 posts)but in fairness its a bit different being UK.
I wouldn't watch Stewart if you paid me - just a shallow copy of our UK stuff.

(14,040 posts)Some of my faves have been Bad Girls, Band of Gold, Spooks, Skins, The Prisoner. I think you Brits tend to produce better television.

(24,331 posts)It's not that it's not good, I'm just kind of burnt out on seeing stupidity, even if I'm laughing at it.
I've been spending my time instead watching Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias, and some of the other premium channel stuff.
aint_no_life_nowhere
(21,925 posts)I watched SNL decades ago along and Conan but I haven't watched any of these shows in years. I haven't even watched the shows on your list. I have a collection of hundreds and hundreds of old B&W films including over 600 French films from the 30s to the 60s. Or a good book, a pipe, an a glass of Armagnac before a roaring fire is my idea of high entertainment when I'm not watching Rachel Maddow or reading posts here.

(22,480 posts)ago and I watch several episodes a day. It is hysterical. Can you tell me when the new episodes are on and which season they are in? I'm trying to catch up on all previous seasons.
I get a relaxed "all is well with the world" feeling when I turn on a well loved sitcom. I have tons of them saved on my TIVO and I watch many just to relax and to stop thinking, like old Seinfeld episodes or Two and 1/2 Men.

(22,165 posts)... are The Big Bang Theory and Bones (I must admit I catch these on "On demand"
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)That has got to be the funniest show on TV, IMHO.

(22,165 posts)I haven't loved a sitcom since Arrested Development (probably the funniest show E-V-E-R)

(32,083 posts)"Conservative Republicans like to watch other people work for free on PBS. No surprise there." Yep. And, it's pretty ironic, considering they're always trying to kill off PBS.
I don't know how they did this poll. The funny thing for me about it is that the shows on the lists that I watch on a fairly regular basis are all on the "Conservatives" list: Antiques Roadshow, This Old House, Hawaii Five-O (McGarrett is such a hottie.) I like many of the shows on the "Liberal" list, but the vast majority of them are on past my bed time. I also don't have cable.
Kingofalldems
(38,458 posts)are two of my favorites. And I don't watch any on the other list. The View should be banned, IMHO.

(11,304 posts)part until the guests come on then I change the channel. I like alot of the liberal list plus my favorite channel is SciFi channel. Discovery channel and now I just got the HBO channels added because I like their mini series like Mildred Pierce. Great programming. Love all the masterpiece programs.

(163,986 posts)They should have about the same audience as American Masters and Masterpiece, imo.

(25,592 posts)1. The Big Bang Theory - Best show out there.
2. Person of Interest
3. House
4. Grey Anatomy
5. Blue Bloods

11. Castle
12. NCIS - Both or all three or what ever.
13. The Mentalist
I am not a follower. I pick my own shows to like. If nothing is on, I will find something else to do besides watching whatever is on.
hfojvt
(37,573 posts)Blue Bloods probably should be. The Reagans? Seriously?
Originally I could not stand the Big Bang Theory, although I myself could be one of the drab 4, but I am starting to be able to tolerate it in re-runs.

(25,592 posts)Nothing there to make me want to vote for bush bots or any of the clown car bunch.
Besides how did they come up with the Dem/Repug lists anyway?
I really liked Chicago Code, but I think it was a little too close to reality and made the powers that be there a little uneasy.

(20,043 posts)I watch all but two. (#1 and #10)
A few I don't watch on a regular basis, but am getting caught up. I started watching late.

(17,055 posts)I might add that the only reality shows I give a dang about are DWTS, AGT and who do you think you are.
From the Democratic list:
1. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

6. Dancing with the Stars
7. NCIS
8. The Mentalist
My own list:

(20,043 posts)Just started watching Justified and Nikita.
I don't watch Covert affairs--though I'm thinking about starting.
Everything else you have I watch. Also looking for to the same shows you are.
Many shows I watch on demand or netflix so I'm behind. I'll watch an entire season in a day or two.
Also add to your list:
American Horror Story
Walking Dead
The Closer
Rizzoli and Isles
Franklin and Bash
Supernatural
The Good Wife
Blue Bloods
I know I'm forgetting some.
That doesn't count what I watch from the 'pay channels' (HBO, Showtime etc)
Little Star
(17,055 posts)Rizzoli and Isles & Franklin and Bash on my original list. I already watch them both! LOL
My husband watches The Coser and The Good Wife I just never got into them.
Blue Bloods I catch every now and again and I like it.
American Horror Story & Walking Dead are zombie stuff right? I don't do Zombies or any Syfi just not my cup of tea.
one_voice
(20,043 posts)American Horror Story is ghosts and murder and way over the top and I love it. LOL!
I like horror and some syfi...I watch a couple of shows on the syfi channel too.
I forgot Ringer, Revenge, and the Secret Circle...
Did you have Ringer on your list? I might have missed it.
edited to add...Once upon a time and Grimm.
I'm gonna stop now and look for a 12 step program...I obviously have a problem.

(16,399 posts)I love Castle.
Also like Big Bang Theory (which I'm surprised Cons don't object to the title alone) How I Met Your Mother, Mad Men, Nikita and American Dad.

(10,618 posts)Gotta have my Mythbusters and NCIS for sure (been following NCIS since the days of JAG almost 17 years ago), and American Pickers is just plain fun. And I'm really sorry to have to admit this, but Larry the Cable guy makes me laugh. I can't help it.
I'll watch the Daily Show once in a while (that's the 1 LIB show I counted), but I'm not a Colbert fan. It just doesn't grab me.
Most of the other shows on both lists I never even heard of. I don't have cable, so I watch what I watch via Netflix, Hulu or other Internet sources.

Conservative:
This Old House
Mythbusters
American Pickers
Tie: Antiques Roadshow/NCIS
AR depends on where they are. American Pickers can be fun. Watched Pawn Stars for a while til I realized that it probably isn't *that* hard to run a pawn shop in Las Vegas. Can you say gambling debts? I knew you could.

(15,185 posts)including the NBC Thursday night line up (The Office, Parks and Rec, Community). Outsourced was canceled. I'll admit I used to watch it, even though it wasn't that great. I'm not completely surprised it was axed. I hope Community survives. It's a well written show and is pretty funny. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is hysterical though.
Colbert and The Daily Show are definitely shows that would appeal more to liberals than conservatives (while the opposite is true with the 700 Club) but most on the two lists aren't particularly ideological. With some of the comedies, it's usually pretty clear the writing is done by liberals, but then again it shouldn't be a surprise that a creative profession like script writing would draw liberals. Most conservatives are neither very funny or creative.
I don't have cable, but I enjoy Mythbusters and Pawn Stars. I catch those when I can. I'm actually a bit surprised Mythbusters would be in the second list but I think it has to do with it being on the Discovery Channel. Top Gear is fun too but I don't catch it very often.
What's interesting is that the second list draws a lot of older viewers (Leno, Wheel of Fortunes, NCIS, 700 Club)...

(19,240 posts)Loved the Chopped episode with the lunch ladies. Made me cry. Oh, and Restaurant Impossible where they renovated the soup kitchen was a real winner, too.
However, Robot Chicken is the only thing that will make me put down whatever I am doing and run to the TV. The Lindsay Lohan as the Highlander episode is one of the funniest things ever.

My never-miss list:
The Mentalist
Castle
Masterpiece
Grimm
Leverage
Once Upon a Time
and I'm finally warming up to Doctor Who. It took me a long time to get over David Tennant and Richard T. Davies leaving the show.
My husband watches quite a few of the shows on the Conservative Republicans list, which might explain why I don't like him as much as I used to. I thought it was just because I was jealous because he's retired and I'm not.

So you wouldn't expect overlap. You could get it, if the shows were less popular with 3rd, 4th, etc. demographics, but it's not surprising not to see overlap at the top of each list.
