Because he wanted to fund Planned Parenthood to avoid a shutdown crisis?
How about the countless times he stopped President Obama's bills? Just to oppose Obama?
And now his party says he didn't succeed.

(30,831 posts)He's better than many in his party; but worse than any Democrat.
Either way, he is a reasonably decent human being, and I wish him well.

The horrifying side to this coin is that I'm sure there's teahadists out there, right now, seriously considering this option.

Either of them would set the bar so low they'd have to dig a ditch for it.

I love how people are willing to sweep these folks misdeeds under the rug because they agree with them on one thing.

(18,497 posts)I think it is a recognition of a human being that is obviously troubled and besieged and betrayed by those he thought were friends.
This is on an individual level, seeing him as a human being and nothing to do with politics.
And his replacement will probably be far more radical, but will hopefully steel the backbone of the sane in congress even further.

"John Boehner's a good man. He is a patriot. He cares deeply about the House
an institution in which he's served a long time. He cares about his constituents, and
he cares about America."
See his comments about John Boehner:

(5,169 posts)If he were a good Democrat, he would be grave dancing.
Personally, I wish the 22nd Amendment were not in force. I don't want to lose President Obama for anyone currently running. If VP Biden runs, I will get active and volunteer. But I'm not putting in labor for anyone currently running.
As for Boehner, He is probably doing the right thing for his mental health by resigning. Now he needs to learn how to put down the booze. But his resigning is going to make the rest of the President's term far more difficult.

(2,679 posts)Boner is the original Orange Man (cuckoo-a-choo, cuckoo-a-choo). Always was and always will be the orange drunk in charge. Sadly the other 177 nutters in the house are bat-shit crazy. Ok, maybe one or two of this lot are not as insane. But that doesn't mean they are sane either, they just sometimes have brief moments (very brief and very long in between mind you), of normal human behavior and thinking.

(32,886 posts)What we are saying is that compared to the rest of the GOP House caucus, he's one of the more reasonable ones. In several cases he has tried to hold back the tea bagged crazies.
If you think he was bad, as the song goes, you ain't seen nothin yet.

(183,162 posts)Boehner did try to make deals with Obama only to return to his figurative caucus room to members swinging from the roof, frothing at the mouth, and flinging poo. Deals fell apart regularly. The sequester was one example.
He didn't appear to be very cunning a politician, he followed the normal steps but the situation had changed. The Teabagger thing got started, as best I can tell, because there was no energy in the Republican Party. The had to create story other than them just sitting around counting their lumps. The fringe was mobilized and the movement was overly credited with success. Too late, not only was a fake force created but spewing nonsense from TV became the course of business for them.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
