General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI think I know why Kim Davis is being a bigot for Christ.
It's not about her deeply held religious beliefs.
It's about her political well being.
She lives in a rural county in Kentucky. Gay people are scorned in these areas by a pretty large majority. She's smart enough to know how people feel about the LGBTQ community in her area and how that plays out politically in Kentucky.
Now, in November of 2014, she handily won the general election at 53.2% to 46.8% for her Republican opponent.
What is never played up by the press, however, is that she BARELY won her primary race. She got 46.2% to her closest opponent who got 45.6%. That may sound like it really wasn't a close race, but here's the actual vote count:
Kim Davis - 1,817 votes
Elwood Caudill, Jr. - 1794 votes
She won the Democratic nomination by 23 votes.
Now try again to tell me this is about "deeply held religious beliefs" and isn't about her political well being.

(14,255 posts)And some candidates are ENTIRELY about their own political well-being, and will adopt any belief, religious or not, when they think it is called for. And then call it 'evolving". Boy, has "evolving" been bent and used for political pandering. It has started to be almost meaningless these days, just another political ploy.

(14,255 posts)So a politician who was publicly against something, vociferously, and then suddenly said oh, I have evolved, but secretly felt this way all along, but pretended the opposite because it was politically convenient, even though it hurt people, can be believed and/or trusted? Not by me, ever. That political expediency thing doesn't work for me, especially when the result hurts people. Like gay people or people killed in wars.
I don't think that one would fly, really.

Evolution is just slow motion flip-flopping.

Of COURSE Kim's engaging in malicious alteration of public documents for the glory of God. And of COURSE -- now that you so helpfully point it out -- she will best serve God's purpose by doing what she needs to to be reeelected. No conflict at all.
