Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee argued on Wednesday that the 1857 Supreme Court ruling which declared that blacks did not have a right to be citizens was "still the law of the land" even though the 14th Amendment overturned it.
During an interview with radio host Michael Medved that was obtained by BuzzFeed, the former Arkansas governor complained that he had been "drilled by TV hosts" after claiming that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis did not have an obligation to issue same-sex marriage licenses because the Supreme Court's recent decision on marriage equality was not "the law of the land" until lawmakers codified it with legislation.

(22,060 posts)Governor Huckabee says that an 1857 Supreme Court decision is the law of the land but a 2015 Supreme Court decision is not the law of the land. His lack of logic is stunning and I'm baffled how his followers manage the cognitive dissonance.
In junior high school civics we learned that the only way to overturn a Supreme Court ruling is by passing a Constitutional Amendment. The Dred Scott decision was the prime example. Did the Governor study civics? Are eighth graders really better educated than he is?

Although I'm sure he would take the job if enough people were stupid enough to vote for him.
On a side note, is "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" still on TV?

(15,249 posts)Huckabee just kicked the twentieth, and twenty-first century in the teeth. He argues in favor of the Dred Scott decision. This man deserves serious scrutiny. His employers or would be donors need to be questioned about what they know about Mr. Huckabee.Obviously he will never be President but Mr. Huckabee exceeds the most hateful segregationist of the 1960's. He is antebellum as if 160 years of American history do not exist. Disgusting

Unfortunately, he's making Trump look sane.

(58,785 posts)Huckabee's almost literally a snake oil salesman, probably completely amoral. I wonder just how many personality disorders will be represented on that debate stage Wednesday, and which ones they would be.

(7,517 posts)This is what happens when someone who majored in Popular Superstition in college thinks he knows law. Remember too a few days ago he was complaining that Kim Davis couldn't get bail. You can't receive bail on a contempt charge.

Really, you wouldn't have to go to college to do this, yes? Adolph did it, and here's this fella.
Could be a nice little part-time income, you don't even need a pickup. Dig up some hate and start manufacturing.

(24,737 posts)find time to repent.....................which I find to be highly unlikely to do, since he sold his proverbial soul to being a bigot and racist to sell his snake oil medicine , and just maybe he should have this included in his civic lessons of fact.
His brand of Christian values and teachings, subjected a entire race to either conform or die, to speak English, forced to abandon a culture, and many thousands died of chicken pox and other Christan led diseases, and for the greed of silver and gold, and the killing of the buffalo, and outright forced land grab and death marches, and the breaking of nefarious treaties. Yep, his brand of Christians values know what is best for everyone.
