Said by Pope Francis to an audience of immigrants, with a wag of his finger.
In other words, God is not a Libertarian or a tea-party member.
He spent quite a while talking about everyone's responsibility to care for each other. I hope he does the same thing when he addresses Congress in a few weeks.
This is the first segment of the show. The quote above came from a later part, but all the segments had this in common: the Pope interacting in a loving way with people on the margins of American society -- low-income students from an urban school, immigrants from Mexico, and people from homeless shelters.

(460 posts)Church?
The Pope is dual hatted in that he has both secular and religious responsibilities and duties but I am of the option that with America having a secular Government his speech to Congress needs to be secular and not religious. We don't invite other heads of other religious groups to speak before Congress. This could sent a very dangerious precedent too, will other religious leaders want parity too when they come to visit Congress?
If Congress is out of session for the day and attendance to the Popes speech is not required and the chamber is being used for the convenience then he can say say what he wants, even hold mass for all I care however it will set into motion the consequence of other religious leaders getting their day with Congress too.
If he is speaking as a Head of State and attendance is required then his speech needs to be totally secular since we are a secular government. Otherwise we will end up with Franklin Graham or some other religious leader getting their day with Congress to give a sermon too.
This Pope has been saying and doing some things I agree with and many others I do not but either way i really don't care what he has to say on anything, he is just another religious dude in a skirt trying to tell women what they can and cannot do with their bodies, which is something I am totally against.
No I am not anti Catholic, but I am anti religion when it comes to government and my personal life. I was raised catholic but I have not had anything to do with the church or any religion in almost 40 years now so technically I am catholic but this is only because the church will not formally release me. Once baptized and confirmed your stuck as a Catholic forever unless excommunicated or formally released like they do in Germany but that is only because Germany requires it because your church is tied to your taxes in some very old fashioned way.
For the record I am an athiest so I really don't care about the Pope at all, but I do recognize that others do and he does do and say some stuff I support so I will support him on that. One of the nice things about being an atheist is that I can think for myself and I am not tied to any specific religious dogma.

I have a feeling John Boehner is wishing he never issued the invitation.
