Tom Brady has more rights than most American workers

Tom Brady is different from most Americans, and not just because he’s a better football player. He also has the rare ability to take his boss to court when he thinks he’s being punished unfairly.

As Team Goodell and Team Brady square off in court again Monday — as part of Brady’s ongoing legal challenge to the four-game suspension he received from National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell after the league’s “deflategate” investigation — it’s worth remembering that the only reason Brady has been able to press his case this far is because he’s in a union, which affords him lots of additional workplace rights.

The vast majority of American workers aren’t union members. They’re “at-will” employees, with no legal right to be treated fairly at work. In fact, most Americans can be punished, even fired, for being too attractive, or too short, or having the wrong politics — or for no reason at all.

Don’t employers need a good reason to fire people?

If you’re in a union, then the answer is yes. Generally speaking, union workers can be fired only for “just cause,” so there has to be a good reason.

Americans don't understand that a union protects them in the workplace.

Talk to any rightwing business owner anywhere in America who has employees and they will be infuriated with the very idea that the government can tell them how much to pay their slaves, uh I mean employees.

Someone once chided me for using the phrase "my employees" or "their employees" as in doing so you give the business owner ownership they dont deserve or really have.

No business should be owned by one person or a small group of corp officers.

ALL forms of production and service should be owned by everyone who works there.

Oh, and thank you too.!!

for all that "Control your own money and destiny" crap.
"Who needs a pension, when you can INVEST YOUR OWN MONEY?!"
"It's not your father's workplace anymore. YOU get to move from company to company!"
"Union dues are UN-AMERICAN!"

National Football League Player Association members certainly can be fired for any reason. Almost 1/2 of the players you are seeing in pre-season games are going to be history in the next 10 days.

The "certain provisions" are we don't need you here anymore. Good bye. There is no appeal. The team does not have to justify anything.

Goodell can't fire Brady, he could suspend him but only the Owner of the Patriots could fire Brady. The Union only represents you when dealing with the NFL, they don't do crap when dealing with your employer, if you get traded or let go by your team well good luck to you.
