(10,495 posts)we will continue to pay the costs of cleanup. The clean up is not that clean either!
In Louisiana, some plaintiff lawyers snuck a bill past that allowed landowners to sue oil companies for cleanup of their lands where the oil companies had previously leased the mineral rights and failed to leave the property like it was before drilling. Louisiana has a lot of contaminated land with huge pits full of toxic waste, rusted, leaking tanks and pipes. The statute was working and oil companies were being forced to clean up. Instead they spread some more money around and got the statute repealed. BP sank the oil in the Gulf of Mexico with Corexit which doesn't break down and will continue to sterilize sea life for thousands of years, killing the sea food industry, all so they could hide the extent of the spill. Our government helped them do it by using Coast Guard planes to spray from the air.
We need Bernie and we need to stand behind him to force corrupt politicians to do the right thing!
