(75,480 posts)news. That should help when the stories are all about how wonderful the oil companies are doing to clean up the spills and other messes they make and so on and so forth. A lying journalist to spread corporate propaganda and their resident Chuckie Toadie to kiss all the right right rings. Perfect.

(11,366 posts)NO ONE likes Chuck Toad and nearly everyone wants Olbermann back.
And, while not scientifically valid, it's still a pretty long thread of commenters.
I've been trying to wade through it for about an hour now, so I can vouch that it's very, very long.
Wonder if Lack and Griffin are reading it. If not, they should be.

(75,480 posts)I was watching and still am watching Al Sharpton, but my satellite menu just changed to "to be announced." I'm going out to dinner tonight so I had my DVR set for Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow. That line up is no linger there and not on my recording to do list. The whole lineup for the weekend is no longer on the menu or my to do list for the early morning shows.
is going on with MSNBC? Are they firing Chris and Rachel too?

(67,112 posts)cable TV. A couple of folks here have some programs they want on cable TV, but I think that will fade away and we will finally drop it. And, it's just getting too expensive for what it's worth.

(9,703 posts)What dumbasses! Ed is the BEST. And I've held on the Rachel, but that's it. Maybe I can finally get around to cutting the cable-cord. I didn't do it because of the Weather Channel but now they have such droll garbage on most of the day and very little actual live weather..
Yes RKPS637: FuckFuckFuckkity-fuck stupid shits M -$$$$$$ NBC. I do not miss Brianfuckingwilliams and I do NOT want to see more of the Toad. No Ed, no me.

(57,936 posts)But I agree totally with the sentiment.
If you really want to change the world for the better, drop your cable subscription and hook up to internet news: Pacifica, Real News, The Young Turks, and so many, many other channels to pick from on the internet.
For entertainment, you can order Netflix and others like it. There is Hulu and more alternatives I don't even know about. Maybe someone else can post the names of some of the other internet-available entertainment and news stations that are great to watch.
Just hook your internet up to your TV. We do that. Our children do that. Who needs cable?
And why is Fox News the station on basic cable in a big, liberal city like Los Angeles.
I will not pay cable rates for my news as long as they have Fox News on the less expensive basic cable.
And shame on MSNBC. Ed Schultz is/was great. They should not replace him. They should give him a better time slot.

(67,112 posts)Roku almost exclusively, far better. To me, cable TV is obsolete. I also use an Internet radio, literally thousands of stations. I still like radios and got tired of all of the RW crap stations and religious channels in this area on local radio. Thanks for your reply!

(8,812 posts)MSNBC's ownership should provide an instant clue as to where its loyalties lie. I'm always amazed when people feel betrayed by corporations. You may be their audience, but you are not their customers. It's a bit like expecting a candidate whose top contributors are banks to work on your behalf instead of theirs. Tragically naive.
Totally agree about TRNN and Pacifica. They only news sources you can consistently rely on are those that are truly viewer, listener, or reader supported.

(67,112 posts)can be made and will create that opportunity as needed. As you basically say, any feeling MSNBC was their friend were a bit misguided.

(11,366 posts)Comca$t has a cap and ATT is too slow for Internet. We had to switch from ATT to Comcast and those are the only two choices we have (too many trees for satellite).
If I had to watch television via Internet, we'd be at our monthly cap in a week.
Sigh.

(6,699 posts)Just like "Air America" failed. There isn't a market for "anti-hate" in this country. The haters are going to tune in and support the pathetic fox-nonsense and reich wing radio, because they sell hate and ignorance....among other disgusting things. There IS a market for that. This is why you will NEVER beat the low-IQ o'reilly and vannity. They sell the hate, and the simple minded haters are going to eat it up. How do you deal with the "anti-stupid"...or progressive media? You can't. It's a lost cause. Air America went belly up, and in my opinion, MSNBC has been belly up since it's start. Great progressive minds are few and unwilling to be sacrificed to the uninterested audience of progressive radio and TV. We have better things to do that fill our heads with "anti-fox garbage".
Sorry...it's a sad thing, but we just have to either support progressive radio and TV, or let it die. If we're going to get out there and try to promote it "at a profit", we're going to lose. We have lost that batttle. NOBODY is going to listen to half the idiots on MSNBC. There are a few bright stars there, but nothing that can compete with the hate-mongers at fox and the reich wing radio haters. Just not going to happen.
I love Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Mike Malloy, Rachel Maddow...but they can't survive if it's based on audience viewership. They don't deal with the hot topic of "hate thy enemy" like the reich wing media do. Listening to vannity and the rest of the clowns, you'd think that President Obama was Joseph Stalin, and any Democrat was a Muslim jihadist. The hate is so strong and potent. I think I'm beginning to repeat myself.
Just not going to succeed. Needs to be "paid for by the progressive party", which doesn't exist.
RKP5637
(67,112 posts)often I wonder if it's endemic to the human psyche, to dwell in hatred and hostilities, and the profiteers have seen that and are being rewarded handsomely, while the country and its future suffer. It's a downward spiral.

(5,275 posts)But....like me, many people one way or another can get news online, I can get all kinds of good talk on my Wi-Fi enabled DVD.
So instead of watching corporate toadie Chuck Todd I can watch Thom Hartmann, The Young Turks, Ring Of Fire complete with Pap Attacks, The Real News Network and other shows with great progressive content. Even better a high percentage of young adults don't have cable.
I do wonder where Olbermann will be landing, he coyly hinted today he will be back somewhere and now it seems the rumors of him to MSNBC were much ado about nothing.
