Plan a trip there. It's a fascinating place, full of history and very worthwhile and enjoyable places to visit. The people, too, are friendly and welcoming, for the most part. If you're planning an international trip, please consider Greece as a destination. Tourism is an important part of the Greek economy, and all money spent by tourists benefits the Greek people.

(63,912 posts)there are some terrific trips there. I'd rather not try Greece on my own and travel with a small group. I hope it stays on the euro...I've gotten used to the ease of dealing one currency when in Europe...

And who am I kidding, if I had the money.
Well, technically, I do, but I have no one to drag along with me.

Shitfire, man! I lived there way the hell back when. You can't swing a dead cat and not hit a ruin 6,000 years old.
Full of history?
It's where history was invented, for fucks sake!
But I could not agree more. Want to see any country and delve into it's culture and people? Spend more than a couple days and rent a car. Stop at every little outdoor cafe you can find. Eat Souvlaki till your eyes bug out.
If you have the ability, and even if you think you don't, NEVER stop traveling.

(146,298 posts)I agree. I used to fly to Greece often when I was in the USAF at a remote base in Turkey. We had four day breaks in our rotating shift schedule and could hitch a ride on the daily supply plane sometimes. Great experiences in both countries for 15 months.

(2,760 posts)I started back in 1966 and have been globe trotting on a regular basis ever since. I've collected enough solo travel stories to fill three published books. I came over to Sciliy from Malta last week, so I may just dip into Greece before I head home to Thailand.
