Confederate Flag May Come Down, But Many Southerners, et al. Will Fly It/Show It

Last edited Tue Jun 23, 2015, 11:06 AM - Edit history (1)

Even though the Confederate flag may come down. Many Southerners and other sympathizers will fly it or show it on private property and individually. Sadly that flag is permanently going to be around for a long time. The sentiment will still be around.

And many retailers will still sell Confederate flag paraphernalia. So we all will still get to see it on trucks, cars, clothing and elsewhere.

ADDENDUM. Of course these people have a right to display the confederate symbols if hey so choose. And that is ok. Sadly, so many Southerners and others will never get over the idea that the South lost and that this country is changing in so many ways. The point of this OP is that we have a long way to go on the matter of race. We have other problems pressing that go beyond the color of your skin because these problems effect all of us regardless of what we look like. It won't matter if we all get cooked by climate change or decimated by environmental disaster. .

offensive though it may be. Prohibiting offensive expression is a dangerous road to start down. Everyone is offended by something.

4. I think removing the official government endorsement of it is a major step just as

removing the officially state-sanctioned racism that was done in the 50's, 60's and so on was a positive step.

You can not stop people from being racists and god knows you can not stop companies from making a buck even if they sell symbols of traitorous racism to traitorous racists.

You can protest companies and shame individuals and maybe slowly the word will become better but first lets remove the fucking thing from any government sponsored exhibition.

Assholes will be assholes. We already know that, but at least this way, our tax dollars won't be paying for states to officially endorse that treasonous flag and the hateful movement that uses it to terrorize and taunt fellow citizens.

I'm sure many African Americans will be glad to see it off some prominent government places and out of the nation's largest retailers.

But United States should not be officially flying the flag of a country that tried to secede from it.

10. I think that people flying the Confederate flag are no different thanthose who fly the nazi flag. We

can consider it a marker of their mentality and treat them accordingly.

So perhaps the thing to do is to point out the comparisons of that horrific mentality and make it a shameful, hateful badge of disgrace and racial hatred instead of some sort of badge of honor. After all, what else could the Confederate flag possibly mean?

And why has it taken so long for people in the USA to come to this conclusion?

I'm thinking out loud here, but why has this been tolerated for so long? And why has the glorification and validation of the LOSERS of an effing civil war, the basis upon which was the inherent basic human rights of people of color, continued for over a century?

Why isn't the US civil war considered a hallmark of shame for the twits that fought and lost? Why are their leaders considered heroes at all and why are the statues of these war criminals permitted at all?

By comparison, it would be like Polish villages who lost entire populations and generations of Jewish families and sympathizers celebrating the Holocaust and brandishing the nazi flag as a badge of honor and holding re-enactments of loading trains filled with Jews off to the camps and mass executions against brick walls. Would that ever, ever be tolerated anywhere else in the civilized world? Why is it tolerated in the USA?

The good that came out of the civil war surely trumps its very premise, yet that good is so incredibly overshadowed by the continued glorification of the Civil War of and by the people who LOST. You know, the bad guys. And that good is retracted every single day and shoved back down the throats of every single American, in particular every single person of color, on every single day in the continued glorification of the men who fought to continue to deprive people of their basic human and civil rights -- simply because of the color of their skin. And yet...

And yet... the people in the USA, and the actual GOVERNMENT of the USA continues to celebrate and validate as heroes the people that caused the US Civil war, and lost it, rightfully so.

And we all sit around and wonder why POC continue to be victimized daily by police officers, racists, judges, the judicial system, the educational system, the voting systems, etc.

And please note, I apologize in advance if I have offended anyone, said anything disturbing, posed an irrational point of view or caused any kerfluffle in general. I get alerted on a LOT for my points of view, I guess I'm not very good at expressing myself accurately. If I say anything offensive here, let me know and I'll edit it or delete my post.

$5.38 <- What South Carolina gets back on its' investment to the Feds. They are number 40 on the list in terms of what they put in.

$.48 cents <- What NJ gets back on our investment to the Feds. We are ranked number 1 for putting into the Feds.

For the purpose of distributing Federal tax dollars around the state of S.C. - at their state house - Governor Haley tear down that flag!

I could care less what private homeowners do in S.C. - they are a 16 hour car drive from me - and cant impact my property value in NJ. Don't care about their bumper sticker or t-shirt either.

Conducting business of the State with my money which we would spend far more effectively in Hunterdon County NJ - I expect them to be solid patriotic all for one and one for all Americans.

They aren't independent - they are dependent. And being dependent on my income 1000 miles away - I expect them to toe the line. They lost the war - and their days of winning the peace are over.

Their state house - using money from states that don't fly Johnny Reb colors to conduct the business of South Carolina - must not offend the citizens of other states giving the our hard earned money - so they can continue to perpetuate institutionalized racism. It's bad enough they do that - their faces are dirty in that regard. At least their hands should be clean.
