1. Saw this and am convinced it was also political- he thought Obama took over and was angry about

The Zimmerman case. A black politician fighting against state abuses (for cops to wear body cams) must have angered him deeply.
And this is why he spoke of burning the American flag.

2. I don't understand his anger over the Zimmerman case,

I don't see where he has a reason to be angry over Zimmerman. That murderer got off scott free and is still out on the streets terrorizing people.

For many. They would have preferred he was never charged. But a friend said that he was pissed off about it. So he took some sort of interest in other people shooting up black men too. Pretty sick stuff.

4. Yeah it is, and it bothers me that people don't seem to be curious as to the whys of these things.

I'm not brain scientist or rocket surgeon, but if I were a journalist, I would think my next question to that friend would have been; why was he angry about it?

It's just like another post here saying Lindsey Graham stated that the confederate flag is a part of who they are. Why wasn't Lindsey cornered on his statement and asked to explain what he thinks that flag symbolizes and how it is a part of him. Then ask if he really wanted to claim that symbolism as part of who is is.

It just boggles my mind, the shallowness of it all.

5. I don't think there are journalists any more, they are 'news' readers

I can only imagine what they are teaching(or not teaching) in journalism school these days.

Koch brothers are taking over colleges so it will only get worse.

In alaska, due to budget cuts, they just combined journalism and theatre...

The University of Alaska Fairbanks plans to cut its philosophy degree program and reduce offerings in music and a variety of other areas, while suspending a dental hygiene program and merging journalism and theater, the university said Wednesday.

7. I get the sense the why is some seriously misguided entitlement and lack of empathy with the other

its hard to even want to explore someone's psyche when they're all about themselves and think of others as shit. It's hard to imagine talking some one out of it. I once worked with the most bizarre group of racists and they really really could not fathom me being offended by this. It was like I was an alien to speak up about it. I was like dudes- no matter where you're from (and it was one of the Carolinas) you're in NYC now and that shit is not going to fly. But it was their norm.

6. We could at least honor his memory by listening to what he had to say

Maybe it's time that Americans demand body cams on all police in every state.

It might help fight racism if we stop allowing authority figures to kill people based on race?
