(11,443 posts)groups (certain DINOS) that support the giant corps and the billionaires on Wall Street. The very people who were behind this fake free trade bill that was nothing but an outsourcing and corporate takeover scam.
Robbins
(5,066 posts)corporations, wall street, and banks+top 1% win again while the rest of us lose.
Intill we have fair trade these trade bills are nothing but helping corporations outsource and give them them more power.

(15,512 posts)I doubt if the others were either but I never checked. Basically CATO was on the fence last time I looked.

So I guess all of them have leaders who are just stupid and planning on selling their citizens/working-people into slavery, destroying their health care systems, destroying their domestic corporations, etc..
The whole world is against us. Jeeez.

(9,610 posts)It they can fund TAA with Medicare funds, they may concede that to turn us all into modern day slaves.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)I think the "modern day slaves" thing IS the end goal...
Twenty years ago it would have sounded like some freaking futuristic conspiracy theory,
but I can honestly see no other end goal, especially because they're trying to push this on Europe as well.
It feels like the Ultimate war between fascism and the people and it scares me.
Prism
(5,815 posts)If I'm reading the rules negotiated right, if TAA failed, then TPA will not go to the President - even if it passes.
So, since the TAA failed, the TPA vote is merely symbolic.
That's if I'm understanding this correctly.
PowerToThePeople
(9,610 posts)Was TAA an expansion bill or?
Prism
(5,815 posts)Since Democrats are typically supportive of the TAA as an assistance program for displaced workers, the voting rules made the TPA's passage contingent on the TAA passing. They figured there was no way TAA would fail, because Democrats would never vote against it.
Someone miscalculated.
PowerToThePeople
(9,610 posts)Anything?
Prism
(5,815 posts)At present, the answer is: We don't know what will happen with TAA.
It's a risky game the Dems are playing. It could very well end in the TAA being killed with TPA still passing. That's one possibility. Have to wait and see ;/
PowerToThePeople
(9,610 posts)Of course they will kill any safety net program they can while giving handouts to megacorps. Obvious is obvious.
Prism
(5,815 posts)If they so choose.
It'll be a nail-biter, either way.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)I think that must have been what Pelosi was going on about
Prism
(5,815 posts)Pelosi said she didn't want TPA going to the President at this time.
Does reconsideration mean a revote? And does a revote in favor of TAA mean the TPA is then approved for the President?
I admit, I'm not entirely following the structure of the rules they negotiated here.
ucrdem
(15,512 posts)So I guess it isn't over til it's over but from the point of view of TPP proponents it sounds like it's in the bag.

(15,512 posts)It's an improvement on NAFTA, it will supercharge the Obama recovery, everyone will prosper, and we'll all blame Obama for some misfortune or other.
Anyway to find out more about TPP click the "TPP At-a-Gance" link in my signature which goes to a DU post with a 3-sentence summary and 14 carefully labeled DU links.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Calling a member in good standing "Blind and Ignorant" because they support something that a number of other democrats support should not be allowed. It is the most persona of attacks. Calling someone ignorant is childish and does nothing for debate. Disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, and otherwise inappropriate. It literally hits all of them.

(15,512 posts)but a win is better than a loss, yes, and it turns out that all those bipartisan gestures that Obama gets bashed here for regularly came in handy in a tight spot. Gee who could have predicted that?
