I do think people watch this crap for the shock value and TLC is very aware of the viewers lack of critical thinking skills. Samer Alhato wins the day with his critical thinking skills.

at the altar. The people participating WANT to be married and they agree to abide by the parameters of the experiment.

The marriages are arranged after an enormous battery of psychological tests to maximize potential for compatibility. The couples are followed carefully for six months (given team building exercises, counseled, etc.) by a team of psych experts and at the end of the experiment they have a choice to stay married or divorce.

Some of the marriages "took," and some didn't from the first season.

Yes, I watched a bunch of them on a snowy day with family!

The subjects are not exploited, they retain their dignity throughout, and they provide feedback during and at the end of the series.

If everyone had as thoughtful a group of matchmakers arranging their marriages, the divorce rate might be lower.

It's not Must See tv but it's not horrible either.
