(36,221 posts)I know you are upset about the banning of NYC_SKP, right? but I do presume that if you want someone else to do it for you, you will have to follow their suit. Admin is the only one who can purge your account, if you won't/can't do it yourself.

(36,221 posts)1 more is you can go into your account settings and change your password by typing in characters without looking at the keyboard, so you can't log in any longer.

(36,221 posts)to see that calling her that, in a not so clever way, was taken care of swiftly, even if it was a long timer.
We don't need that.

(8,171 posts)You can get yourself banned, I wouldn't suggest it.
You can scramble your password so you can't log in.
My suggestion would be to take a break. There have been a few times when I've just had it with DU and taking a break helps.

(101,315 posts)Self-delete all the posts you've made that you want to stop DUers reading
Change your signature and profile to have a message to let people know you're no longer posting here
Change your registered email address to something false
Chang your password to something random you will never remember

Probably the best way is to post something so heinous that you end up with a "Name removed" where your nick used to be (and not just PPR'd). Might or might not work...

(99,710 posts)The mark of a great intellect is to believe two mutually exclusive things at the same time and believe both to be true. SKP did a horrible thing but he didn't deserve a lifetime ban.
But this is a teachable moment. I am very cautious what I say to people in real life when I am mad at someone because I don't get to calibrate their response. I might drop an epithet on somebody and they laugh it off or they just might punch me in the face. You can have your account terminated here at any time, for any reason.

(51,308 posts)But I got busy for about three years because I was traveling (worked for an airline and flew for free all over the place), and I just kind of forgot about it.
So essentially, I was gone. No one cared. No one knew I left, and maybe three knew when I returned. I didn't leave in a burst of glory. I wasn't mad at DU. I was just busy with other things. Life lol.
One day, I remembered, oh hey, wonder what is going on in DU? And I came back. Could not remember my password or even the email addy I had when I joined back in 2005. A longtime DUer and friend here helped me, and Skinner could not have been nicer to help me get back on.
But if I never did, who cares? Why the need to "purge"?
Don't go away mad. I didn't. I just went away.
You can do the same.

(17,598 posts)i'm not feeling as negative as i was - i used to think that progressives would get things right and keep a large tent. I never imagined that there could be such staunch word speech. I was feeling more frustrated than i have ever been with DU.
My loyalty has been swayed to this site - to which i have been financially and emotionally committed for 14+ years. I'm over the initial shock so i'm not going to leave. But i won't have that false sense of comfort that we are a large helpful family warts and all. When people can, in my view, be callously treated - today it was over the use of a word in a stupid way - who knows what it will be tomorrow. Many of us have strong emotional opinions. Who knows what will come out tomorrow and which of us may emotionally post something that gets us banned.
I'm a strong believer in the collective good, and i believe in the old parable that they came for x and i stayed quiet. then they came for y and i stayed quiet. then they came for me and no one was left to stand up for me.
I am a passionate Hilary Clinton supporter. I think she will make a very good President and Bill Clinton will be a great FLOTUS (!). I miss the camolet like world under the Clinton/Gore administration. Hillary as the first Women President will be such a good message after the first Black President. But i don't think we should ban people who have passionate views for others and when they stupidly use stupid words.
There are big issues for progressives to fight beyond this site - placement of progressives on SCOTUS, getting rid of Citizens United, Universal Healthcare, Climate change, 1 person 1 vote. This site has proved a very valuable service - and it was a lifeline after bush allegedly stole his way into office in 2000.

(30,481 posts)I don't mean that in a snide way. If your membership payment is on some kind of reoccurrence, put a stop to it. Then simply don't log onto du. It works in multiple ways. You get what you want, and if you change thoughts in the future, your profile is still here waiting for you. Go in with the mindset you are taking a break. If that break turns into an overall positive in your life, make it permanent. Millions of things you could be doing other than this. Determine if this is what you want to use your free time on over those other options. Best wishes to you.
