I am extremely happy to know that calling Hillary

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Hassin Bin Sober (a host of the General Discussion forum).

the most misogynistic word in the US, got someone the ban hammer.

Makes me feel a bit better about the place, in that it will not be tolerated.

Will she ever recover. Thank you administrators for your courage, and showing how blind many of us are because we did not see "him" call anyone by truly the worst word in the entire language of every country in the world and would have dismissed it as silliness. Of course it was not silliness; it was a treacherous remark and NYC_SKP was lying in wait for months waiting for a chance to call her that name.

Phew, what a relief you're here to protect her and us other dumb whimpering helpless females....

I'm assuming (wrongly?) that sarcasm is permitted. Why else would there be an avatar for it? I missed one that says "Just kidding." Is it an oversight on your part on this otherwise perfect site that just maybe could have avoided this mess?

The last line makes it obvious "it's quite a tongue twister".

I was here in 2007 (but after 2004) and I remember more flames than eggshells. People often went over the top attacking the other candidate and the other candidate's supporters. Obamabots, Boggers, sensible woodchucks, etc. Purists who want a pony, etc.

There should be lines, there should be courtesy. People should at least TRY to follow certain rules of decency and politeness even if it is easy to get carried away in passionate advocacy.

Because I will be told I want a pony sooner or later.

Unequal and biased enforcement of rules and allowing stalkers and bullies is what adds to the wtf about these times.

This is silly season: with more spleen (tm).

And the juries (what a joke) make those rules even more clear than the thickest lava at mt doom.

But certain groups have always gotten away with a lot. Why I take this ban as a shot across the bow. And my candidate is big money, not any of the clowns on either side.

This is by desig by the way and far from accidental. This place is anymore a place to be entertained by. You want serious discussion on anything, not here.

Cowering behind implication results in the same message... it merely allows the person to rationalize his sexist remarks, and gives the irrational thinker a reason to justify it as something benign.

All too often, the coward hides behind tokens and insinuations. More often than not, that same cowering will be defended and advertised as martyrdom by the dogmatic and close-minded.

How many threads can we have on income inequality before you deem them to be copycat ops? This is suppose to be a progressive board and discussions with respect to equality and sexism should never be diminished or dismissed. A past member of this board, who has displayed sexist behavior on more than one occasion, has been banned. Some are feigning ignorance, supporting that behavior, or want it glossed over. There is no better time for discussion and it is most likely the greatest contribution to this board that member has ever made. I think you should reframe your mindset on this one. It is blatantly apparent that sexism needs to be discussed here. If it makes some feel uncomfortable or they feel the need to dismiss it, so be it.

Actually, it just makes them assholes.

And it is insulting. The only way the argument works is if anyone else is stupid enough to believe it. So by implication they are saying they believe we are that stupid.

Wherever it may rear its ugly head, regardless of the cause (I am usually quite supportive of women's issues and agree that NYC_SKP was way out of line and deserved some kind of punishment). Had the poll not been locked by the same person dealing out the heavy-handed punishment, hundreds could have voted - I'm sure you would then argue that there are thousands of DUers. I have little patience for that kind of thing. A clear majority (81%) of those responding to the poll believed that NYC_SKP should have received a suspension or warning rather than being banned. It's unlikely that the percentage would have changed much with more people voting - you know it and I know it and everyone else does too including EarlG.

There has to be a better way of expressing dislike of someone without referring to their gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, et cetera.

Sometimes an asshole is just an asshole.

69. If only that were a universal standard here at DU
Fri Jun 5, 2015, 08:52 AM
Jun 2015

There is plenty of hate speech here. A lot of us are subjected to it on a daily basis. It's perfectly acceptable to slag any liberal you want with any insult you want as long as they are in a certain minority. Using particular code words because you can't get away with saying something outright is not limited to the conservative side of spectrum.

What bothers me more is the attitude of these people. They want to say worse than they actually do, so whether they actually say a bad word or not is irrelevant to whether they are a useful part of the discussion.

Personally, I think a "hide" would have been sufficient and the hide/show ratio would let someone know the popular sentiment about that choice of words. The ban has probably generated more polarization and ill will than the original comment could have.

77. I agree with the decision - whether NYC_SKP used the exact "word" or not...
Fri Jun 5, 2015, 09:09 AM
Jun 2015

because NYC_SKP knew exactly what they were doing. Over and over again, there were posts and reposts of what I called "bashing" way beyond dealing with the issues. What's more, and this is the important thing:

HYC_SKP often pushed around the rules tying to be clever while continuing an agenda. The intent was obvious.

No matter what candidate you support, DU doesn't need to allow the behaviors of a few disrupt the discussions of the many. Some behaviors should not be allowed and the rules should flexible enough that the mods can "know it when they see it".

A few hidden posts is a warning. Others who argue and point out why the style is over the top is a warning. Eventually, it's too much. Frankly, the more NYC_SKP got away with skirting the rules, the more extreme the next time became until the limit was reached.

Is there any doubt as to knowledge of the rules and attempt to circumvent the rules? In this case, absolutely not!

Fri Jun 5, 2015, 09:36 AM

Those same people who have done nothing but use conspiracy theories and take virtually everything related to Hillary out of context in such an outrageous and ridiculous manner -- now they are bent out of shape because SKP might have been taken out of context. LOL.

His comments about Hillary were becoming increasingly irrational. Just completely irrational, so it's no wonder he resorted to such baseness. The degeneration in his contempt was obvious and really uncalled for as is a lot of the irrational posting about her. Just the other day there was a thread here about the DNC chair raising money for Clinton, yet on Lawrence O'Donnell's show, the real story was about Jeb Bush raising unprecedented amounts of money as an undeclared candidate and no one mentioned it. Only Hillary hate gets attention. Sickening.

Somebody had it in for him because he was taking a lot of very unpopular positions for DU and doing it loudly and often. They were waiting for him to slip up and step on his dick and he gave them the opportunity.

The whole episode should be a cautionary message to anybody her who holds some opinions that might offend the more tight assed among us. If you favor the second amendment, if you don't like Ms Clinton, watch your step.
