Those little girls did not stand a chance. They were taught submission and that they were to blame.

All I can tell you about this tweet is that the Duggars are/were fans of Bill Gothard and that this sexual abuse "lesson" does appear to have been a part of his curriculum at one time.

(37,364 posts)Think about Warren Jeffs and others like him. How many of these incidents are traceable to this type of teaching. It is frightening that fundamentalists have been actively trying to get sex education in schools replaced.

(23,664 posts)And if anybody tells me they didn't get a creepy vibe all along from Jim Bob Duggar and his inbred tribe of shitkickers, they're either lying or weren't paying attention.
Christ, even the name sounds pervy. Jim Bob Duggar? Gimme a friggin break.

The other thing I dislike so very much about most religion, is that they say it's perfectly okay for God to do completely horrible things, like allowing child abuse or war or being burned alive. Just on, and on. If God does it, it's perfectly okay.

... and then after having had her body forcibly taken by an abuser, she's told to "give her body up to god" and "place herself on his altar to serve him" *shudder*

(37,364 posts)by ISIS as far as I'm concerned. They were completely and totally at the mercy of Duggar, his parents, the cult they belong to. They literally had no avenue to find help since they were home schooled too. The more I read about this, the more I feel physically ill. How vulnerable they are.

Honest to gods, I don't know how I would survived if I had been being fed that that toxic message before, during, and after my year of molestation. I prayed then. I prayed a lot. But God didn't cause those events -- a human being did. I never blamed either God or myself; I just tried not to think about it for the next 20 years.
Does God forgive? I'm an adult now, not a child, and my considered opinion is this: we have to ask forgiveness of those human beings we have harmed, not God or Goddess, or the gods. We don't get to lay the blame for our own behavior at the feet of the gods.
Grandmother Hekate
God can't forgive anything. The 5 young girls he abused and probably raped are the only individuals who can forgive him. But they are brainwashed to believe this is their fault or at least their burden for the rest of their life.

(37,364 posts)We are utterly responsible to ourselves and others and certainly responsible for how we treat others. We can ask for forgiveness but it does not have to be given and forgiveness doesn't not take away the wrongdoing.
