(11,804 posts)If he wants to get into the race than he will eventually turn on those programs - let's face it almost no Republican is going to publically admit that they want to ditch those programs. But they will try to cut them apart while pretending to improve them.
On the other hand if he wants to stay as a viable commentator, possibly he sees this as a way to broaden his appeal. "Sure i'm a strong conservative on abortion and civil rights; but I don't want grandma to go hungry."

(15,271 posts)You can go two ways deeper into crazy or almost rational on something. In Huckabee's case it will not be Mental Health (son with major issues). A slight jump to the rational expect deeper into the crazy.
