“This Ain’t About Freddie Gray.”
Baltimore erupted in violence on Monday following the funeral for Freddie Gray, a young black man who died mysteriously after injuries sustained while in police custody.

Joel Anderson - BuzzFeed News Reporter

Their anger surged shortly after the funeral of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died on April 19 — a week after he somehow suffered a major spinal cord injury while in Baltimore police custody. The violence in Baltimore is a dreadful echo of the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri that followed the killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed black man, at the hands of Darren Wilson, a white police officer who said he acted in self-defense. Since then, the killings of unarmed black men across the country have sparked a nationwide movement protesting what they see as excessive force by police. On Monday in Baltimore, that frustration with police boiled over into violence.

“It’s from years and years of taking shit,” said Martin, a longtime resident and a cook at a nearby soul food restaurant. “Now we’re at a point where people just don’t give a fuck.”

This hopelessness — expressed by many young protesters in Baltimore — arose from frustration with a system that they believe has consigned them to police brutality, poverty and even poorer prospects.
The streets were filled with children Monday, many of them fresh out of school and itching for a fight with police. By 4 p.m., around the time schools let out for the day, people were hustling out of office buildings and stores and restaurants were closing their doors to customers.

this is extremely accurate. I've heard lots of bad things said about the kids. I've heard them called thugs, etc. Goodness knows that what they did was wrong. But it's been building, and they've borne the brunt of it. They've seen the police brutality and they see no justification for it. They see people around them in the media living the good life, but that's not where they are. They know nothing of 1968. They only know *now* and they don't like it.

kept them around. They openly bribed. Financial Thugs. All over the globe, in fact.

So, while Baltimore burns with almost everyone now focused on the scapegoats..."thugs" (aka black young men) up to the White House being concerned, all we hear about is the angry young folks who have no future. And Obama has his legacy tied to the TPP shipping out more jobs. There is a connection and it isn't a good one.

Will the Democrats stand up? Some are peeping about it (Bernie's not a Democrat) but will anyone be able to remember that Freddie Gray's only sin was to "meet eyes" with the cops and run, which in slavery terms is a crime. Blacks must look down before the powerful white man. It's the same in the Hispanic culture, as well, although there it is also in their culture as a respect to their elders.

What to be done? Require all law enforcement personnel...from office workers, to officers, to police chiefs to take classes in Interacting with the Public, get certified/a certificate, and renew it every couple of years. Then, make officers carry E&O Insurance that THEY pay for...just like other professions. Have a Federal Civilian Review panel for every incident when a citizen is taken to the hospital. Immediate suspension and with any death...Loss of job.

Thank god for cell phone cameras. Just my two cents.

FLOWERS IN THE NIGHT
MUSIC & Lyrics: Jack Traylor

Paine and Pierce and Robespierre, Juarez and Danton,
Luther, King and Lumumba dead but far from gone
Lenin, Cleaver, Jesus too, outlaws in their nations,
Revolutionaries all, dreamed of liberation
God is up in heaven his agents here on earth

The church has said that this man rules, he's best because of birth.
But what's that noise down in the street, who dares to shout and sing?
With all his courtiers at his side, who dares to touch the king?
Old man get some soldiers, keep them close at hand
There's a fire in the country, there's a flame come to the land
Seven thousand loyal troops, in ranks they stretch so far
With seven thousand well armed men, no one can touch the czar.

Louis watch the prisons, send the goons around
Is that Paris burning, is the Bastille falling down?
And where are all the mercenaries - paid for by the king?
Have they joined the mob you say, doesn't money mean anything?
Old men get some soldiers, keep them close at hand,
The seeds that were sown yesterday now flower in the land
And guard yourself most carefully with military might.
For plants that cannot bloom by day must flower in the night.

People who have been systemically oppressed, often brutally, eventually get to what I call the Popeye Point: "I've had all I can stands, and I can't stands no more!"
