Iranian President Dings Congress: Were Negotiating with White House, Not Them
by Josh Feldman | 5:11 pm, April 15th, 2015
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech earlier today in which he took some shots at the United States Congress for asserting their role in approving any nuclear deal with Iran.
Members of Congress, mostly Republicans but also some Democrats, have said Congress should have the right to see the full deal and vote on it. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously passed a bill on the matter, which now heads to the Senate floor.
President Obama had threatened to veto such a bill if it passed, but backed off this week.
In comments initially reported by state media, Rouhani said, I declare here that whatever the U.S. Senate says and what the House of Representatives and radicals in America are after, what the mercenaries in the region say, is not related to our nation and the government.
He insisted that Iran is in negotiation with the major powers and not with the Congress.
Congress had previously reached out to Iran, warning them of such, when 47 Republican senators wrote an open letter to Iran asserting Congress role in the negotiations.

(54,770 posts)the final deal is presented to Congress, especially a Congress like this one where screwing the Perz is more important than the agreement.
