NRA Bans ‘Operational’ Guns At NRA Convention For Security Reasons

but they are a must have for grade schools and college campuses???

If you would believe the logic the NRA has used to justify guns everywhere from inside capitol buildings to bars to schools, more guns equal more safety. With that premise, one would think an NRA convention – a place where thousands of gun-owners congregate to buy, sell, and talk weaponry – would be the safest place in the world. The NRA disagrees. In fact, they’d rather you kept your guns at home, please.

The NRA, America’s largest gun lobbying group, is planning to hold its annual convention this week in Nashville. According to planners, over 70,000 proud good guys (and girls) with guns are expected to show up. As always, attendees will hear talks from celebrities, politicians, former Alaskan half-term governors, and gun-rights advocates, while a massive arena will be filled with vendors.

4. “Bridgestone Arena prohibits the possession of firearms,” according to the NRA website

Usually, it is local or convention hall policy that prohibits firearms.

I don't know who is telling the truth in this case, but its not clear to me that the NRA is banning firearms or if it is the policy of the convention center. If its the later, then addictinginfo is basically lying. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was the NRA.

Typical

During the 2015 NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Music City Center with the proper license in accordance with Tennessee law. Bridgestone Arena prohibits the possession of firearms. When carrying your firearm, remember to follow all federal, state and local laws.

http://www.nraam.org

The ban on "operational firearms" pertains to displays, vendors and salespeople showing their wares at the event.

Nothing unusual about the practice.

Shot Show (the biggest firearms related convention in the country), has been doing this for ages.

Even many gun shows require that sellers and vendors run a tie wrap through any firearms to prevent them
from functioning properly.

This part is particularity laughable....

In other words: no working guns on the property and required registration procedures for all
gun purchases

Registration?

No idiot, it's called a form 4473 and by Federal law is required for all firearms sales by an FFL and is part of the NIC's
background check.

GUNS

News stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about efforts to strengthen or weaken gun control legislation in any jurisdiction in the United States, national news stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about high-profile gun crimes, and viral political content from social media or blogs that would likely be of interest to a large majority of DU members are permitted under normal circumstances.

Local stories about gun crime and "gun porn" threads showing pictures of guns or discussing the merits of various firearms are not permitted under normal circumstances and should be posted in the Gun Control and RKBA Group.

Open discussion of guns is permitted during very high-profile news events which are heavily covered across all newsmedia.

Please feel free to continue the conversation in one of the "gun" groups. Thank you for your understanding
