(12,132 posts)GoDaddy is all I've ever used but I don't want to any more either.
I don't need them for hosting, just the domain name registration.

(1,532 posts)but NameCheap.com is probably a favorite for $-saving.
I hate GoDaddy for their sexism, as well as for stealing good domain names you search for but don't act on immediately. (Ask me how I know.)

(12,132 posts)If you have a story you want to tell, please do BUT you don't have to if you don't want to because I believe you already.
That doesn't surprise me one bit.
Remember Me
(1,532 posts)I used to use GoDaddy to find out if various domain names I'd thought of were available. If I didn't buy them right away, when I came back to buy them, the better ones were gone. And it happened enough that it raised my suspicions. Finally I tried one that was a very clever and unique play on words, and in a niche that while popular wouldn't have been THAT popular that someone else in the universe just happened to think of it before i got back to buy it.
When I told a more experienced friend about my experiences he said, "Sure. Happens all the time. I thought it was common knowledge about GoDaddy."
Sooooo, for just checking if a domain is available, I use this handle little online utility: http://www.instantdomain.name/
For a long time my very creative domain name that got away from me wasn't in use. It now has a site up, but just barely. One page, with "class schedule coming soon."
