"It comes down to the same thing, with you and Brian," Letterman said near the end of the interview, referencing Williams, whom he called a friend.
"Trust is the residue of both positions," he went on. "So people must trust you to the same degree they might disagree with you but they must trust you the same way they trust Brian Williams."
"I've been on the air 19 seasons, 15 years at number one," O'Reilly answered. "Our ratings now are as high as they've ever been, so I think they do trust me and I'm glad they do."

(111,371 posts)He has no idea that his "highly rated" show on a cable channel is really a small backwater, that the real ratings still go to the mainstream broadcast news.
He's the typical biggest fish in a little puddle.

IF that isn't illogical, I don't know what is. The reality is that O'Reilly believes what he said to David letterman and O'Reilly's viewers believe Bill O'Reilly.
Fox viewers claim that they are persecuted, Fox hosts claim the same idea they are persecuted by the liberal left (or some bullish*t along those lines). The reality is that they have made it ok to lie and they are victims when called out on said lies.
It's utterly pathetic, They have taken the idea of the first amendment and bastardized it.
