http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/19/politics/obama-poll-success/index.htmlAssessing Obama's presidency overall, 50% consider his time in office a success, 47% a failure. And for those who say his time in office has been a failure, 37% say that's been because of his own actions, while just 9% attribute it to Congress blocking the President from action.
With a corrupt, obstructionist congress and everything that has been thrown at Obama the last six years, 50% is pretty impressive - and it's a number that has only risen over the course of the last few years.
It's also better than Bush by a wide margin, who, at this point in his presidency, was said to be a success by 39% of the country. Clinton, who came in at 77%, remains overall perceived to be more successful - but I wouldn't be surprised, if the economy continues to grow, that by the end of his presidency Obama is closer to Clinton.

(4,940 posts)Medicaid WILL be expanded through ACA, and I'll qualify! As will about 17,000 or so more Alaskans (this doesn't include children, as we have Denali KidCare here). In a population of less than a million, that's a hell of an achievement.
Thank you, Pres. Obama! (My healthcare costs will go down so much once the medicaid is passed, and I'll qualify for more stuff!)

(50,300 posts)At the time Obamacare first passed I had been unable to get insurance for nearly 8 years because of price (first) and pre-existing conditions (after a few years without medical care). In the interim one of my hips totally went to hell and I was in horrible pain. As soon as the pre-existing condition pool opened, I got in and within 6 weeks had surgery that gave me back a decent quality of life. It was nothing short of a miracle. I have no idea why anyone opposes expanding medical care for people.

(4,940 posts)but at least I got to see a doctor without having to come up with up-front money! With the medicaid expansion, the deductible will go bye-bye, and the copays I can (barely) manage.
Now, we need to do something about the lousy dental care, which also will improve under medicaid, but not quite enough!
Vinca
(50,300 posts)Depending on the doctor, of course. Hospitals are harder to deal with because of their size. In any case, even with the deductible you know that the worst case scenario if you become deathly ill is X number of dollars you will have to pay back over time. It beats dying. I agree 100% about dental care. Everyone should be able to get basic dental services and treatments. (People who must have refrigerator white teeth can probably pay out of pocket anyway.)

(23,946 posts)If the economy does keep on improving as predicted, with ultra low energy prices, no inflation and zero interest rates how can it not..any coup attempt is doomed to fail.
Remember that a black man has to do twice the work for half the credit, so Obama is really closer to 100% approval!

(28,762 posts)unemployment low, more people getting healthcare, what's not to like?
Now it's time to put the finger pointing republicans back in and screw it up all over again. Then after the republicans screw everything up, voters will put the democrats back in to clean up the mess. It's like Groundhog Day every election cycle.

(25,111 posts)of the "47" failure, 37 of the 47 I would assume as your hard right (conservatives) and 9 are the others (Dems and Indies and other), leaving 1% (?).
With constant bashing, downright falsehoods, racial attacks, obstructions 24/7 by GOPs in congress, corporate media and corporate newspapers and sites along with social media, hate radio and other means of spreading untruths while blaming every gawd damn negative actions and words on Pre O.
No wonder the additional knives are creeping out from the hate machine and even from some allies. No conscious Cheney and his minions, and fake news propaganda.
50% is amazing since Pres O negative attacks are 24/7 and still continuing.

(25,183 posts)That 47% that thinks he's been a failure, they're the hardcore haters, and I can't think of a thing that will move them even to the undecided. And at this point, the undecideds are a pretty small percentage.
We've still got over a year and a half of the Obama Presidency to go. We have all kinds of trouble in the Middle East, if the various Islamic factions can focus solely on screwing each other over, then maybe the 50% saying 'success' will hold. But, in Tunisia, they've shown that they're more than willing to go after Westerners, and if that happens outside of a Muslim country, then you can expect the 'success' numbers to fade.
We really have no idea what can of worms was opened with Arab Spring. It could well be that Hillary shoulders some of the blame for that, if things go worse over the next twenty months.

(561 posts)...is that a lot of Obamas' negatives actually come from progressives that are disappointed that he's not enough to the Left.
