WINDSOR Colorado regulators have ordered an energy company to stop drilling an oil well in a closed landfill in Windsor after the site was deemed a risk to the public due to hazardous toxic waste.
----snip----
Amanda Barnes and her husband, Jim, along with their three children, have the best view of the oil rig and the drilling operations from the large windows from the west side of their River West home. Amanda, 38, and her husband arent concerned with the well or the health and safety ramifications.
I dont drink from a well, so Im not worried about my water, said Amanda, who has lived at River West since 2000. Were sitting on top of oil and gas. Our culture is dependent on that, and if we have the commodity right here why am I going to pay to import it. Fracking is going on everywhere, and its all over Weld County. People arent used to seeing it in their backyard. You cannot fight the oil companies. Its not my battle. I have so many other things to worry about. (emphasis added)
Amanda, who found out Tuesday that the drilling was stopped, said her family actually likes the way the oil rig looks instead of having to look at a landfill full of garbage.
