This is so sad. 10 dogs died including a guide dog for a hearing impaired woman. It's a tragic reminder to keep fire hydrants shoveled out and pathways cleared, if you live in a snow belt area. Firefighters had trouble getting to the site and the water.

My heart goes out to the humans whose fur babies were lost.

(7,549 posts)when I read or hear about things like this happening. Marnie's trainer is taking in some of the surviving dogs free of charge until their owners can claim them. They , must be so scared. She's great though so I know she will comfort them, as best she can.

(7,549 posts)I am so glad our town had our DPW dig out our fire hydrants. In the on air piece the fire chief said the hydrants were covered with snow and the fire crew had to shovel to get close enough to the fire to fight it.

(7,549 posts)own lives to get as many out as they could but weren't able to get to all in time. Can't even imagine how hard this has to be on the people who lost their babies.

(7,549 posts)She was called in to aid in rounding up the surviving dogs who didn't need veterinary care and keep them at her facility until their families could get to them. She started to tear up.
I felt the worst for the hearing impaired woman. They interviewed her again tonight. At first the fire officials told her they thought her dog had been taken to the vet,so her family drove her there, the dog wasn't there. Turns out, hers was one of the ones the volunteers couldn't get to and was lost to the fire. She said it wasn't an official service dog but acted as one any way. When she has had time to grieve, I hope someone gets her another dog to help.
