http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/feb/04/fox-news-shows-isis-video-jordan-pilotFox News has chosen to embed on its website the video of Islamic State burning a hostage to death, a move which makes them the only US media organisation to broadcast the video in full.
The extremely graphic 22-minute video shows Muadh al-Kasasbeh, a Jordanian pilot, being set on fire and burned to death in a cage. Fox News did not post the videos of the killings of previous Isis hostages, and no other media company has hosted this video.
YouTube removed a link to the video a few hours after it was posted, and a spokesperson for Facebook told the Guardian that if anyone posted the video to the social networking site it would be taken down.
Several news organizations used still images from the video in their news stories both in print and online including the Daily Mail, the New York Daily News and the New York Post, which also used an image of Kasasbeh on fire for the front page of their evening edition.

(23,946 posts)only one to now rather suddenly become aware of the obvious, of how they all in the asshat American media were all aiding and abetting ISIS recruitment and feeding xenophobia with their endless broadcasting and gif looping of the "high production value tapes"?
Like, WTF stop now?

Every time ISIS releases a ransom video its absolutely obvious what is going to happen to the hostage.
But every time we have to go through the motions of the family pleading to ISIS and getting theit hopes in vain only to have them predictably dashed. It's all so obvious what's going to happen. The narrative is already written.

(2,978 posts)A lot of filmed sex crimes are distributed and called "pornography" (most obviously snuff but all sorts of horrid sexual abuse) along with that which is produced by consenting adults.
I have my opinions on pornography needing to be better regulated so as to prevent the distribution (and incentivization) of filming trafficking and sexual abuse, but I wonder about current obscenity law and the first amendment, especially with regard to the rights of victims and their families to protect their own privacy.
If they raped him before they murdered him but we saw no nudity, would Fox show it? Would we claim we have a right to see it?
I really don't know the answer to this.

(18,184 posts)does that mean it's not important?
ISIS previously massacred thousands and we paid little attention to that. Likewise with Boko Haram, the LRA etc. etc.

(12,461 posts)Romney's failed attempt to get the President for not saying "Islamic terrorists" when he called it a "Terrorist Act". He will not call these barbarians "Islamic" for a reason, that flies over the heads of those at FOX "News" This barbarity has nothing to do with Islam, but has everything to do with an organization that is getting the bombed to hell. This was an escalation of barbarity to elicit a response, and Fox news is playing into it.

(25,406 posts)I don't need journalists to nannyishly decide what they think I will be too traumatized to view. I am quite capable of making that decision myself. And I think most people's imaginations are vivid enough that there is not a whole lot of difference between reading the detailed description of the murder and viewing it.

(3,299 posts)I've lost patience with the never ending "Fox is the most evil" calling.
In this case we have a group of Islamic monsters that
need to be taken out. Not useless words and the inability
of some leaders to not say certain things and think that is enough.
Blaming "Evil Fox" is just not going to cut it, at least not with me.
