(19,497 posts)Comes from the New Testament. Jesus was in the Temple when they brought a woman to him. She had been caught in the act of adultery. The people that brought her to him said the law said she should be stoned. Jesus knelt down and started writing in the dirt. When they pressed the issue he looked at them and said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." From the eldest to the youngest they dropped their stones and walked away.
Jesus then looked down at the woman and said, "Woman where are your accusers?"
She replied, "They have gone."
"Then neither do I accuse you. Go and sin no more."
The point is: We're all frail and fallen, weak and arrogant. We should seek mercy over judgment because none of us, no matter how righteous we may imagine ourselves, can withstand honest judgment.
It may be an ancient scene but it is as true today as it was then and it will be just as true for as long as humanity walks this world.

(58,724 posts)When there are threads bashing Mitt Romney, you rarely see someone respond with "I am sick of Romney bashing. Jeb Bush s just as bad!"
Just because Jeb Bush is also worth criticizing doesn't mean we shouldn't also criticize Romney - especially if he is the one making noise in the news currently.
If there had been an attack by Christian fundamentalists on, say, an abortion clinic this month with several casualties, we'd been hearing a lot about the Christian bad apples (and about problems with fundamentalist Christianity generally).
People need to get comfortable with the fact that it is not only OK but essential to be critical of ideologies such as these, especially in light of recent events.

(33,575 posts)in many Muslim countries in support of the killers?
Why can I find no stories about rallies that support the Cartoonist in any Muslim country?

(86,586 posts)they were out condemning the killings, the non-radicalised-Muslim community that is. I heard/saw quite a bit of it that week. What now happening and what we are being saturated with is a separate response to the last edition of the magazine. Because the magazine is responding to the massacre, they are standing up in defiance but it still seems to offend. So those offended are responding, it also happens that the killers are now symbolic and are being used as imagery to express outrage.
The issue is too complex to fit into a baggie, please don't try to make it seem like it is as simple as you'd like... because it's not.
Your comment seems to be based on a TeeVee version of reality... which requires no independent cognitive function... look away, seek info elsewhere...

(33,575 posts)and while there was condemnation of the killings from Muslim communities in Western countries, I saw nothing but large rallies in defense of the killers in Muslim countries. If you have other information, please provide it.
If I wish to call out the Muslims in those countries for supporting this terrorism it is not bashing. I am commenting on a specific group of Muslims. Not all Muslims.
The attempt to silence critics of Islam and parts of the Muslim population with the cry of Muslim bashing isn't acceptable.
I will condemn bad actions and ideas wherever they occur.

(37,364 posts)that there is a perception that Muslims are constantly assaulting the "Homeland." Of course, not all acts of terrorism by others are clearly labelled as such.

(45,319 posts)'as bad as' or 'worse than' because to me it is all just religious nonsense used as excuse to speak venom and do violence toward others.
I will note that on DU protestant Christians are endlessly mocked for their bigotry and sexism and they have no defenders here at all, mocking Pat Robertson is a cottage industry here.
But Catholic or Muslim leaders who speak bigotry are defended here. Those of us who are critical of their bigotry and sexism are often attacked and derided. Some fundamentalists have defenders on DU.
Let me know when LGBT people pass a law to execute religious people. They do that do us now. So your whole 'religion is oppressed' routine is a bogus, mendacious line told to assist those who do aggressive harm to LGBT people.

(45,319 posts)anti woman actions on the part of religions refuse to so much as acknowledge those problems. I think this OP accuses people of unjust criticism when it is very just to criticize bigoted actions. Several people have pointed this out to the OP, who just ignores all of that. I'm sick of that arrogance.

(17,595 posts)there. the kkk is reviled and condemned without qualification by Christians and others. i don't hear comments like 'i understand what the kkk wants, but i'm against killing. Still they have some points and black people should just not be seen and be careful not to get in the way of the kkk'.

Sure, Christianity has its share of horror stories. But doesn't the Muslim world have more?

(35,015 posts)What on earth would the media do with only good news stories? There must be death and destruction to feed the machine, and keep us all mired in fear so that we are dragged down in it, away from peace and love.

(51,311 posts)about your boring neighbors? Do you expect journalists to write about "Now, we went to a store owned by Muslims today. Nothing happened. Film at eleven."?
Yes, there are newspaper stories about charitable works, rescued kittens and owners reunited with lost dogs, school board issues, traffic accidents, and so on.
But do you REALLY expect the beheadings, bombings, and slaughters by ISIS to be ignored? These atrocities are more than examples of deeds done by the milquetoast term "bad apples"!
