Which 28 OILY DEMOCRATS Just JOINED THE GOP to Vote for Keystone XL?

The House Republicans have been having an exciting week.

On Wednesday, they voted to roll back Dod-Frank.

Yesterday, they voted to weaken the Affordable Care Act.

And today, they voted to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

And, as always, there are a number of Democrats happy to join them.

The Keystone vote today was 266 to 153, with one "PRESENT" vote. Justin Amash (MI-03) always votes present because, although he supports the pipeline, he does not believe that Congress should be passing legislation on behalf of a single company.

28 Democrats joined the Republican caucus in passing the bill:

Brad Ashford (NE-02)

Sanford Bishop (GA-02)

Bob Brady (PA-01)

Cheri Bustos (IL-17)

Jim Clyburn (SC-06)

Jim Cooper (TN-05)

Jim Costa (CA-16)

Henry Cuellar (TX-28)

Mike Doyle (PA-14)

Gwen Graham (FL-02)

Al Green (TX-09)

Gene Green (TX-29)

Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18)

Dan Lipinski (IL-03)

David Loebsack (IA-02)

Sean Maloney (NY-18)

Patrick Murphy (FL-18)

Rick Nolan (MN-08)

Donald Norcross (NJ-01)

Colin Peterson (MN-07)

Cedric Richmond (LA-02)

Kurt Schrader (OR-05)

David Scott (GA-13)

Terri Sewell (AL-07)

Albio Sires (NJ-08)

Marc Veasey (TX-33)

Filemon Vela (TX-34)

Tim Walz (MN-01)

Ruben Hinojosa (TX-15) and Cedric Richmond (LA-02) were not in attendance but probably would have also voted YES had they been there.

The 153 NO votes is sufficient to sustain a veto, so this isn't going anywhere.

money! This is how American politics works now, take the bribe and stay, or turn it down and get voted out!
This is why nothing good will come unless we force them to enact Publicly Funded Elections.

Fri Jan 9, 2015, 02:51 PM
Jan 2015

Their votes aren't needed to pass it. It won't pass by a veto-rpoof majority. They won't suffer by voting no. The pipeline isn't economically viable. And the only reason it is being pushed is as a big FU to the Democratic Party and its environmental supporters.

And yet they still voted for it.

I'll bet each and every one of them gets big money from big oil.

Do what the Repubs do when they're guys get out of line, send them packing. Their issues seem to based on money and power, our I hope are based on workers, workers rights, the environment, social and economic equity, and a lot more that I'm not going to cover right now. To me it seems like 2 completely different sets of issues.

I wonder what happened; she used to be a favorite of mine. Same thing happened with Tom Harkin to a degree.

Also am surprised to see Bob Brady on the Keystone XL list. His city constituents aren't exactly clamoring for the pipeline.

and Walz should have known better. Here in MN we are concerned about water quality and that is part of what this is about. We in Nolans district want out lakes ( be they above ground or under it) and wells kept clean. What was so hard to understand about that Rick?

Rick take some time to ask if there has been a spill west of Cloquet last winter in the coldest days of the year. Is that okay because it is on Native American land?

The best we're going to get is someone who has the will to push for strong regulations, and I feel like Nolan can do that. I say that as someone who disagrees with most people here on Keystone XL, however.

ETA: I also don't feel like a lot of the vitriol ("oily," "sleazy," etc.) doesn't really apply to Nolan or Walz, for that matter. Peterson is a product of his district. We could do better, and we could do a lot worse.

Fri Jan 9, 2015, 04:27 PM
Jan 2015

The requirement to override a veto is 290 house votes and 67 Senate votes (2/3), if everyone votes.

So another 24 dems would have to flip to yes to pass the house.... so like you said, keystone dies at Obama's desk.

He has not promised to veto Keystone.

Before the vote Friday, White House spokesman Eric Schultz told reporters the president's position on the pipeline hadn’t changed despite the Nebraska court ruling.

“As you know it is undergoing rigorous review, and we’re going to wait for that review to be completed before the president makes any decisions,” Schultz said.
