Dems Respond To McConnell Taking Credit For Economic Growth: 'Hahahahahahahahahahaha'

By DANIEL STRAUSS

The way Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sees it, recent good news on the American economy is directly linked to the fact that there's a new Republican majority in Congress.

"After so many years of sluggish growth, we're finally starting to see some economic data that can provide a glimmer of hope; the uptick appears to coincide with the biggest political change of the Obama administration's long tenure in Washington: the expectation of a new Republican Congress," McConnell said on Wednesday. "So this is precisely the right time to advance a positive, pro-growth agenda."

The comment provoked snide chuckles from Democrats. The Democratic National Committee emailed out a statement with the subject line "DNC to McConnell: Hahahahahahahahahahaha."

Here's the statement from DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee:

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. That Mitch McConnell is one funny guy. He likes to remind people all the time that he’s not a scientist. Now we know he’s not a mathematician or an economist either. The fact is, under President Obama we’ve had 57 straight months of private sector job growth leading to nearly 11 million jobs added. All Republicans have given us is a government shutdown that cost the economy $24 billion. I get why he wants to take credit for the economic recovery. But maybe he should first do something to help contribute to it.

I hope we're going to see some stronger responses and push back from the Democrats as the do-nothing Republicans try to take credit for the hard-earned progress we've made in the past six years.

Sneak onto 'Sunday Morning Talk Shows' on the three networks - and sucker punch the rest of the panel with the message.

Talking amongst themselves and NOT hitting on places like FOX and Sunday morning is why the 'Republicans Win the Message Game'.

Looks like Roger Ailes agreed to spin the meme, because what else they got? Their whole strategy was to blame Obama for a terrible economy they did their best to creste.

It can be proven that the economy has been improving for 6 years, but it's difficult to demonstrate that to people who do not understand charts, graphs or even just plain old numbers.

Of course it can also be proven that every recession since Ronald Reagan took office was under a republican administration.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recessions_in_the_United_States

Of course they're gonna try to take credit for it. Taking credit for good stuff is what they do most.

how it was such a train wreck right before the election. Funny how they turned it around on day 1 of their new congress. That's fast work!

These are the same people who act like Obama came in to office and crashed the global economy in 2008, even though he took office in 2009. I remember the 2 months between the november election and the inauguration in January where these assholes claimed the president-elect was the reason for the jobs lost.

And it was so powerful, I couldn't resist posting it here:

Recessions Since 1950 and Party in WH at Onset

Jul 1953 - May 1954 Republican (Eisenhower)
Aug 1957 - Apr 1958 Republican (Eisenhower)
Apr 1960 - Feb 1961 Republican (Nixon)
Dec 1969 - Nov 1970 Republican (Nixon)
Nov 1973 - Mar 1975 Republican (Ford)
Jan 1980 - July 1980 Democrat (Carter)
Jul 1981 - Nov 1982 Republican (Reagan)
Jul 1990 - Mar 1991 Republican (G.H.W. Bush)
Mar 2001 - Nov 2001 Republican (G.W. Bush)
Dec 2007- Jun 2009 Republican (G.W. Bush)

There have been 22 recessions since 1900.
16 have started under Republican leadership, 6 under Democrat leadership and the 2 worst 1929 and now when Repubs had control of WH and congress for more than 8 years(the only times in history)
http://www.nber.org/cycles.html
Given Repub economic history, the 2 largest depressions in our history, the only 2 times they have had control of congress and WH for more than 8 years.. why does anyone listen to them on economics, when they never show supporting economic data

Another poster on the same thread pointed out that Carter was in the WH during the ONLY recession during this time period and he is the one held up for ridicule by the Rethugs; yet, how often do we hear about those other presidents?
