By DANIEL STRAUSS
The way Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sees it, recent good news on the American economy is directly linked to the fact that there's a new Republican majority in Congress.
"After so many years of sluggish growth, we're finally starting to see some economic data that can provide a glimmer of hope; the uptick appears to coincide with the biggest political change of the Obama administration's long tenure in Washington: the expectation of a new Republican Congress," McConnell said on Wednesday. "So this is precisely the right time to advance a positive, pro-growth agenda."
The comment provoked snide chuckles from Democrats. The Democratic National Committee emailed out a statement with the subject line "DNC to McConnell: Hahahahahahahahahahaha."
Here's the statement from DNC Communications Director Mo Elleithee:

(222 posts)I hope we're going to see some stronger responses and push back from the Democrats as the do-nothing Republicans try to take credit for the hard-earned progress we've made in the past six years.

(31,821 posts)Sneak onto 'Sunday Morning Talk Shows' on the three networks - and sucker punch the rest of the panel with the message.
Talking amongst themselves and NOT hitting on places like FOX and Sunday morning is why the 'Republicans Win the Message Game'.

(4,835 posts)It can be proven that the economy has been improving for 6 years, but it's difficult to demonstrate that to people who do not understand charts, graphs or even just plain old numbers.
Of course it can also be proven that every recession since Ronald Reagan took office was under a republican administration.

Of course they're gonna try to take credit for it. Taking credit for good stuff is what they do most.

(45,438 posts)how it was such a train wreck right before the election. Funny how they turned it around on day 1 of their new congress. That's fast work!
These are the same people who act like Obama came in to office and crashed the global economy in 2008, even though he took office in 2009. I remember the 2 months between the november election and the inauguration in January where these assholes claimed the president-elect was the reason for the jobs lost.

There have been 22 recessions since 1900.
16 have started under Republican leadership, 6 under Democrat leadership and the 2 worst 1929 and now when Repubs had control of WH and congress for more than 8 years(the only times in history)
http://www.nber.org/cycles.html
Given Repub economic history, the 2 largest depressions in our history, the only 2 times they have had control of congress and WH for more than 8 years.. why does anyone listen to them on economics, when they never show supporting economic data
Another poster on the same thread pointed out that Carter was in the WH during the ONLY recession during this time period and he is the one held up for ridicule by the Rethugs; yet, how often do we hear about those other presidents?
