A former airline boss and writer claims the U.S. downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 because the military feared it had been taken over by hackers and was about to be used in a 9/11-style attack.
Marc Dugain, the former chief executive of now-defunct Proteus Airlines, said the jumbo jet was shot down near a U.S. military base on the remote island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean after it was hacked.
He told Paris Match that islanders in the Maldives near Diego Garcia told him they saw the missing aircraft flying low.
Dugain spoke of a fisherman on a small island who spoke of a 'huge plane' in Malaysie Airline's colours on March 8.

(1,305 posts)but there's a possibility it was shot down and more than one nation is aiding in the coverup.
China and the U.S. For sure. There's no way China doesn't know if we did something to it and vice versa.

(46,416 posts)Unless there was an aircraft carrier nearby or some other big US asset, why would we shoot it down--it would have been running out of fuel at that distance from Malaysia anyway. And then we spent a lot of money and naval resources searching for it afterward--why would we have done that? Biggest con job by a nation ever?

(18,733 posts)how could people on the Maldives see a plane near Diego Garcia- over 1000 km separates the islands.
What target on Diego Garcia would be worth the effort? It is a refueling base without any real permanent combat unit stationed there. They have MPS ships but one plane could only take out one ship; hardly worth the effort. Also the isolation would diminish the psychological impact, instead of a 9-11 attack it would be less effective than a car bomb in Ottumwa.
If the plane was hijacked and if US forces shot it down, what is the need for a coverup? The plane so far off its flight path could only indicate it was taken over by hijackers. We have stated that we would shoot down our own planes as a last resort. There would have been time to inform Malaysia of what was happening with the plane and our intent to stop it. Yes, there would be repercussions but much less than doing so secretly and covering it up once the act is discovered.
The easiest course would be to allow the attack to proceed. Personnel could evacuate to safe areas, damage would be minimal and repaired in thirty days or less. U.S. aircraft would be able to capture the whole event on camera proving that it was a terrorist act.
