According to Baltimore County police, a female victim described as a former girlfriend of Ismaaiyl Brinsley, was shot , allegedly by Brinsley, inside her apartment on the 10000-block of Mill Run Circle in the early hours of Saturday morning. She had been shot in the abdomen and is expected to survive.
Late Sunday morning police identified her as Shaneka Nicole Thompson, 29, and said she was shot with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun. She remained in critical but stable condition at a nearby hospital. Because of her condition, police said detectives have not yet been able to interview her. They, along with NYPD detectives who are on their way to Baltimore, hope to be able to interview her later today if her condition improves. She is expected to survive her injuries.
According to police accounts Brinsley fled the scene before police arrived after the shooting. Detectives later got a hold of Instagram posts by Brinsley that indicated that he had gone to Brooklyn and was posting threats about killing police in retaliation for the choking death of Eric Garner by a NYPD police officer in July.
Unfortunately, as Baltimore Police were contacting the NYPD, Brinsley, 28, was ambushing officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu as they sat in their parked squad car. He shot them both in the head.

(10,274 posts)He was a troubled man with some mental health issues. His shooting his GF was the most serious crime he had been accused of up until the killings.
All the info about his being a member of the BGF seems to be rumors.

The New York Daily News reported that Brinsley is a member of a Baltimore gang looking to exact vengeance for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. He reportedly had shot his girlfriend in Baltimore just hours before. And CNN has confirmed, at the very least, that Brinsley had traveled to New York from Baltimore:
Mediaite also gives this link to Brinsley's arrest record:

A 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley is in the database of Georgia arrests for carrying a concealed weapon and reckless behavior in 2011.

(1,827 posts)The man whom police say murdered two NYPD officers as they ate lunch in their patrol car Saturday had a long criminal history.
Court documents show that Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, had been arrested in Ohio for theft and robbery, and in Georgia for robbery, shoplifting, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to WABC.
The New York Times reports that Brinsley was convicted on weapons charges in Georgia in 2011 and served two years in prison there. He also had prior arrests in Brooklyn, where his family still lives.

Two New York City police officers were shot dead "execution style" in Brooklyn on Saturday. Not much is known about the gunman, who was identified by officials as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, except that he was a suspected gang member from Baltimore who allegedly posted on social media that he wanted revenge for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two black men that died at the hands of police.
According to the New York Daily News, Brinsley, who was pronounced dead, had ties to the '"Black Guerilla Family" prison gang, which is also known as "Black Family" or the "Black Vanguard." The gang was formed in 1966 by Black Panther member George Jackson at the San Quentin State Prison in California, and soon grew into a multi-million dollar business with chapters stretching from Los Angeles to Kansas City and Detroit.
BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson, a source told the News, which also reported on a suspected Black Guerrilla Family plot to kill NYPD officers in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict an officer in Eric Garners chokehold death earlier this summer.
A federal law enforcement official, however, told the Baltimore Sun that Brinsley had no known ties to the BGF.

(1,827 posts)Sometimes, these guys can come out of the blue. We shall see.
I am still mystified as to how this guy found these two cops sitting there, announced his presence to the people on the street, and shot them both anyway.

But, points to mental health issues.
Not politics.
