http://samuel-warde.com/2014/12/10-right-wing-companies-to-boycott/You can actually use your hard earned dollars to send a message that reflects OUR values and priorities. Ive listed a few of the right wing companies that are either major donors to extreme Conservative causes and candidates or that run their operations directly against core Progressive values. Now this is certainly not an exhaustive list, sadly there are many more, but this list of very common brands is certainly a good place to start. And of course another great thing you can do is to patronize Liberal businesses. But heres some that you should definitely avoid .
3. Carls Jr.
Carls Jr. has been notorious for objectifying women in most of their highly sexual and controversial ads. But they also have been huge supporters of extreme anti-abortion causes. And if thats not enough reason to avoid this fast food restaurant, they are also totally against gay rights. As a matter of fact, gay rights groups actually started calling the food Bigot burgers after the companys founder, Carl Karcher, came out in support for a 1978 proposition which would have allowed school boards to fire any teacher for being gay or for advocating homosexuality. In addition Carls Jr. is also a big time donor for Conservative Super PACs and the Republican Party....
6. Waffle House
Waffle House is another restaurant run by extreme Conservatives who are major donors to right wing causes and candidates. As a matter of fact, 100% of all of their donations went directly to Conservatives. Waffle Houses CEO, Jim Rogers Jr., has been a big supporter of Republican causes for a very long time. In 2006 he joined the finance team for Mitt Romneys Super PAC, Common Wealth PAC.
P.S. Sorry, Southerners, but Carl's Jr. now owns Hardee's.

(20,631 posts)Koch brothers product. Looks like I've purchased my last package of rolls from them.
Okay - I'll reconsider if they start producing "special edition" rolls with the brothers' faces printed on the sheets!

(63,926 posts)Besides I can get much ethnic foods of all kinds here in New Haven that I'd be crazy to go to one of those places. I do ask what is lower in salt on the menu and also ask that no additional salt be season my food. There's a great little mom and pop diner nearby where I can get perfect burgers: unsalted burger with toppings of fresh tomato, roasted peppers and sauteed onions on a toasted bun. Ditto omelets if I go for a little brunch.

(20,631 posts)the Midwest. It's probably been at least 15, maybe 20 years since I last ate a burger from Hardee's.
I stick with Culver's and Steak & Shake when I'm in the mood!
I think Carl's bought Hardees about fifteen years ago when the whole Hardee's Star ad campaign started.
I was surprised by that because I would have thought Hardees bought Carls. I always knew Hardees as a national chain.
But I am a hick too. Our town got a Kmart in 1978 as part of the new mall. To me, Kmart was a national chain, and I never heard of Wal-mart. I sorta thought it must be a derivative spin off of the giant Kmart.
In somewhat the same way, in the midwest (at least in the 1990s) every decent sized town has a Phillips 66 gas station, but once you get east of Toledo, those do not exist any more as I found out driving through Upper Sandusky looking for one.

(56,912 posts)pyramid then it is doubly dirty. I have always heard it described as a pyramid and stayed out of it for that reason alone.
But, you are right, in a way, this thread has nothing to do with the other except the other thread is the first I have heard of Amway being a Legitimate Business.
For my own sake, I am trying to determine why Private Insurance is not also a pyramid scheme.
Not sure how Stock Brokers are paid but, I thought the structure of the payment scheme is what determined the pyramid.

(32,000 posts)Is by its very design - intends to money by NOT giving people the coverage they paid for.
home, fire, flood, auto, and yep - health.
I look at the Take Your Money Party type businesses much the way you do. Up lines and down lines and bears oh my!
So it's kind of funny that the worst of the worst of the "religious right" make their money off of that. Just saying - a dollar spent with an Amway rep is a dollar given to those who wish to dismantle public education
Betsy Devos is hip deep in that endeavor.

There is a lot wrong with WalMart, I know but, rural areas and small towns are in a Jam for shopping especially off hours.

Yuck. But if you must have that Chick-fil-A taste there is this

2. Hobby Lobby
Over priced crafting supplies that really don't leave a whole lot to crafting. Michael's (it might be a Minnesota thing) is not much better, I think actual hobby stores are better, plus the smell.
3. Carls Jr.
Yuck. I don't know what's on their menu. But, I kinda hate fast food in general anyway.
4. Walmart
Target is just a slight step up. I don't think they are progressive either. But, they do put some money back into the community and the causes are somewhat progressive. I just don't really like box stores of any kind to be honest.
5. Marriott Hotels
I have no idea what hotels owners are more inclined to Liberal values, so anyone chime in here. It's a moot point for me anyway, cuz I am too poor to travel.
6. Waffle House
What is it with conservatives and crap food? Oh it's comfort food, well I guess being conservative is very stressful.
7. Angel Soft, Brawny, and Dixie
Good there are so many better alternatives anyway.
8. Exxon
boycotting since the spill well not directly, I got my SO to go to a different place for gas. But, then BP so another different place. What is up with these companies doing horrible things and not taking any responsibility for the clean up and admitting how bad it was?
9. Cracker Barrel
went once hated it. I would boycott this place even if it wasn't conservative owned. I would seriously rather go to McDonalds. I hate McDonalds, except for the yogurt parfait those are pretty good.
10. Urban Outfitters
never been I see Levi's is on the list of liberal owned businesses, so good my favorite jeans.
List of progressive businesses

anyone else notice that progressive businesses tend to put out better products? I just thought that was ironic.

(32,000 posts)And I know people have serious distaste for Walgreens and products from China - but Walgreens sells 100% treeless paper towels, Kleenex, and t.p.
I've written Coscto several times asking them to bring a product like that to our area Costco.
We adore Costco. My husband is a small business owner who pays very well, sick time, vacay, helth coverage -
He only likes to give money to businesses that are like him. Costco is his fave big box store for that reason.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)I think we are getting some traction though for businesses that treat their employees well. IIRC Costco made bigger profits than projected while Walmart et al not as profitable as projected.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)Costco opened in my area in the last several months, so I have been shopping there and love it. Although I already had a Sam's card, I much prefer Costco for higher quality products and their business philosophy (better wages), but our local Costco does cater to a wealthier customer than the local Sam's Club. Also, I've bought nice clothes at Sam's for members of family and myself, but I rarely find anything at Costco. Most of the customers who shop at local Costco would never buy clothes in a warehouse.

(10,893 posts)comments on that article, I feel like I caught cooties. So many people were like "thanks b*tch for providing a list of place TO shop". This is a nice reminder that these are the type of people who stand in the way of us having nice things policy-wise (e.g. single-payer, higher minimum wages, etc.) in this country.
As far as the boycott goes, I already don't do business at any of those spots especially since most of them aren't even available in Arcata to begin with, but I 100% understand people who shop at those places for convenience and/or lower prices and don't necessarily have politics in mind. My $0.02 on this is that change to some of these corrupt behaviors from the aforementioned businesses is more likely to happen through D.C., rather than boycotts. Typically not very many people boycott (or even know which business TO boycott), and the businesses still make good money. It's pretty much just a moral victory for those who do boycott.

She has contributed thousands of dollars to such miserable groups as our old buddy Newt Gingrich's GOPAC, the Republican Coalition for Life (anti-abortion only - not anti-war or anti-disease or anti-starvation or the like), and that sad and silly old ultra-conservative "matriarch", Phyllis Schlaffly's "Eagle Forum (the group of misguided conservative women who really appreciate being paid less than men and having fewer rights than men and allowing men to control their bodies and its functions on and on).
