(5,082 posts)And stop pretending to be Republicans in the center. People will vote for real Republicans instead of fake ones anyways. This has done a disservice to all the good Democrat candidates like Mark Udall. I blame Obama and the Clinton's. 2000 repeat. No cajones. And Hillary talks about grit in New Hampshire? Where the heck was this sell-out? Progressive only for me from now on. This game is getting old.

That picture could have been applied to the OP.
If we want to win elections, we need a bunch of those "fucking fuckers" to vote for our candidates. So calling them names and telling them fuck you is probably not a good idea.
Even though some seem to feel it is in their self interest to wallow in hatred.

(3,363 posts)Newsflash: They don't need us.
We had the Senate and Presidency and the republicans controlled everything. They obstructed and never gave an inch - and it worked.
Dems are the only ones to ever compromise and look where it got us. We've moved so far to the right Reagan now seems quaint and socially liberal.
Too many Americans love the arrogant asshole mentality of the GOP - the Chris Christie-my-way-or-the-highway bully types. They love it! They mock liberals openly and our dem politicians don't even defend us or fight for their own principles. Ever.
Their pleading emails begging for money while crying "We're doomed" were quite the strategy. Totally pathetic.

Not just presidential elections.
2016 Dems will bounce back.

I dont give a damn what the hell you Yankees/Texans do, do it in your own yard, and shut the fuck up. We dont care what you do, and we dont want your damned PVC sided beige square houses uglying up our town. Go home, and quit looking at my home as simply a chance to line your wallets.
Im so glad all you Chicagoans have figured out exactly how to fix New Orleans. Look at your own nasty city and explain why you cant deal with the snow other than to throw tons of salt on the road, and why you cant buy a beer for under $5. Fuck you, you fucking fucks.

(78,249 posts)I posted quite often as "Ignatius J. Reilly". During those dark days after Katrina, I was all gung-ho to go back and lend my expertise to the rebuilding effort. Alas, no one wanted to pay me any more than an AmeriCorps stipend. I should have known; it was the lack of employment that caused me to leave in the first place.
I even got to meet him once. I happened to be in town when a fellow blogger, Mark Folse, was throwing a party at his house in Mid-City. Mark was actually living in Fargo, ND when the storm hit; he somehow managed to convince his wife to come home with him.

(42,002 posts)I've listened to WWOZ for a long time and he had some real fans there. When the crazy hit I think he went crazy better than a whole lot of those who went crazy.
I wanted to go back and do counseling but couldn't at the time. Friends did, and told some poignant stories of holing up at The Marriott trying to get deeply traumatized service people to talk. Of course they would have nothing to do with it (you know how provincial New Orleanians are) until one of the counselors had the brilliant idea to just set up a spa and give foot massages, help them get clean and just sit there in a quiet place with a beer. Said they just broke open. Not a lot of words, but a lot of feeling.
I just got back from there last night. I miss it already. Halloween was fabulous.

(8,979 posts)Or shooting themselves in foot, take your pick. Many if not most GOP voters will repeatedly cast votes contrary to their own best interests. Unfortunately for the rest of us who know precisely what's in store once these cretins gain power in our communities, states, and at the national level, we're also summarily fucked, albeit involuntarily.

(14,177 posts)I remember the old days when being a Republican just meant you had a different idea about what was the best way to go about solving a problem. Now it's no longer a matter of looking at a way to solve a problem. They want the government to ignore problems and actually make problems worse by creating more laws that by their nature will have a disproportionate amount of people who aren't in the 1% locked up. At the same time they want to make sure everyone is good and tied down by economic circumstances so they are more likely to run afoul the law ie a mother who takes her children to work with her and leaves them in the car because she can't afford child care. They have gone from having a different philosophy to having a sick and twisted one.

This old schoolmate...
* Lives in his grandma's house that was willed to his father, which his father charges $500 a month.
* Asked me for $600 a few months ago because his electric was turned off, which I did not give him.
* Blames all unions EXCEPT the one he used to work for that paid him twice as much as he makes now.
* The TWO BEDROOM house he lives in - get this - contains his wife, three children, an adult son along with the son's wife and 3 dogs. The filth in every room in the house is far too much for me to describe in short terms.
* Filed for assistance numerous times; not sure if he's been denied, approved or both at different times.
* Called another friend the night of the 2012 election and told him that he "wants Obama to be given the JFK".
Others have claimed he's referred to me as a "elitist snob", but denies it. I guess it's because I...
* Bought the house me, the wife and our children live in with my own money which had been saved - not willed or given.
* Bought our two vehicles with my own money, where one is paid off and the other is currently being paid on.
* Send my son to a Catholic school
* Perform tasks and work for both union and non-union outfits - work is work irrelevant of it's affiliation.
* Never once asked for assistance and would probably have a minor heart attack if I had to due to a dignity thing.
* I don't bash Obama or Democrats and have also supported Republicans on a small township level.
I may be making a hogging post here, but this what I've seen of the "working class Republican" up close and personal. They're so obsessed with "sticking it to the other guy" that they gladly welcome their own butt hurt with open arms...and open cheeks.
