But instead of them getting weaker, they get stronger and continue to grow. Eventually humans become partially immune, but the immunity vaccine turns people into blue hybrid beings. The uninfected human race has to fight for survival in this Godzilla, Jurrasic Park, Avatar, I am Legend world. The hero dies saving the girl. Just as the humans finish off the last hybrid beast, the "machines" become self aware and nuke the planet. And the story starts over with a new enemy.

(24,853 posts)October 14th + 21 days equals? Election Day. He should have been quarantined until election day.
No self-monitoring... the Dr. from NBC and her shenanigans because she wanted SOUP should have put THAT to an end. PEOPLE cannot be trusted.
We don't need to fear the VIRUS as much as we need to fear the PEOPLE who've been exposed to it, and DON'T WANT TO BE INCONVENIENCED.

(39,313 posts)Self isolating - in the presser now they said they have his metrocard to trace his route. More for comfort but still.

(39,313 posts)But the panic factor was nit taken into account. Am guessing many less informed are avoiding subways - a fail that should be addressed

(44,973 posts)He went out the day before he got symptoms, using public transportation, to a bowling alley.
What would he have done if he didn't try to limit his contacts?

(39,313 posts)It means physical contact possibly.

(849 posts)Don't Drs ever watch the news ?
It's been told for weeks by the president, the CDC head doctor that ebola is not contagous on a bus.
But, we have nurses flying, doctors on subways, in taxis.
Ohhhhh wait, they quarantined the busload of Marines after the lady puked in it at the Pentagon so maybe busses aren't safe now either.

(637 posts)It really serves no purpose overblowing this, I highly doubt there will be this "massive outbreak". Just relax and go on about your life.

(32,701 posts)it will be a problem for everyone on the planet.
Crunchy Frog
(26,582 posts)Unless he turns out to be one of the "contacts". Then he'll basically have to put his life on hold for the next 3 weeks "out of an abundance of caution". This is certainly going to happen to dozens, maybe hundreds, of New Yorkers.
There doesn't have to be a "massive outbreak" for their to be serious social consequences to this sort of thing.

You don't have to be crawling on all fours throwing up and having explosive diarrhea
to be contagious .
Logical

(733 posts)The man was contagious or the CDC would not be trying to track down every where he went
if he wasn't. They would be sure there was no risk of infection.
It's just not a easy virus to be infected with unless you have close contact with a person
who is showing early symptoms but to say he wasn't contagious is flat out wrong.
Logical
(22,457 posts)But no one knows if he was contagious when he went bowling. They are being overly cautious.
LisaL
(44,973 posts)He is feeling fatigue for several days prior to Thursday. Wednesday he goes bowling. Thursday morning he gets high fever and other symptoms.
So could he have been contagious already when he went bowling?

(733 posts)After four to six days on average, symptoms of Ebola can begin. The period between the transmission of the virus and the start of symptoms is called the incubation period. For Ebola, the incubation period can be as short as 2 days or as long as 21 days.
Is a Person Contagious During the Ebola Incubation Period?
Even if a person exhibits no signs or symptoms of Ebola, he or she can still spread the virus during the incubation period. Once symptoms begin, the person can remain contagious for about three more weeks
Logical
(22,457 posts)Ms. Toad
(34,069 posts)That is why the need for caution. Because of where Ebola occurs, there are very few thorough studies about transmission via contact other than with bodily fluids. The studies that have been done HAVE found virus on surfaces where no fluids were visibly present. They have also documented one case in the absence of direct contact and a dozen more with no known contact with anyone with Ebola. None of these peer reviewed studies ruled out the possibility of transmission via virus on the surfaces of objects which are not covered in bodily fluids.
The chances are small - the amount of virus found in isolation wards (which are cleaned frequently) is very low - but they suggested that in areas cleaned less frequently the risk might be higher.
But the chances are not zero - so people who have been exposed do need to start treating this virus with a little more respect than just insisting you are not contagious until you are spewing bodily fluids all over the place.

(49,212 posts)He didn't shit on anybody. He didn't bleed on anybody. As soon as he showed early symptoms (when very little virus was in his body and he was least contagious) he isolated himself. It's a near certainty he hasn't made anybody sick and won't make anybody sick.
That would be the lamest movie ever.
But feel free to whip yourself into a lather out of willful ignorance. The internet is great at that.
