We had to decamp for a nice late lunch at Marnee Thai on Irving street.

I prefer "The Sound of My Tax Dollars Being Pissed Away."
26 Blue Angels pilots have been killed in air show or training accidents. Through the 2006 season there have been 262 pilots in the squadron's history, giving the job a 10% fatality rate.
$37 Million a year budget.
But....
THEY GO ZOOOOOOOMMMMMM!....Yeah! USA USA WE'RE #1

Mostly they fly over the bay...but they have to fly over the city and over residential neighborhoods as way of advertising its fleet week in San Francisco..I wouldn't mind so much if they flew higher but they don't and its freaking crazy.

(41,831 posts)Its fun to go to some special place and see them at an air show, but when they fly roof top level and scare cats, dogs, babies and people who are not expecting it, its madness. I have literately dropped my purse all over the sidewalk cause those things flew over with a sonic boom! I have had stuff fly off the shelves with the sonic boom. Over the bay ...well it messes with the natural wildlife there.. especially the birds, (You may have heard how some birds have parked on the bay bridge and they are having a hard time to get rid of them, because they are protected?). They are loud and scare animals and people when they fly over a residential area..

(8,020 posts)See my post about the "ZOOOOOOMMM!" thing.
Those are warplanes, and flown to attract recruits and entertain the folks in the crowd. Not a fireworks show.
26 dead pilots - 10% of the Blue Angels - and a $37 million a year budget... so a "leftover kid" can get his jollies?
How American.

(2,682 posts)It's been several years since I last went to see them. The last time, as I was standing at the rise of the I-90 floating bridge with one of them screaming by overhead, it occurred to me that while I thought of it as somewhat thrilling, that in fact, when used in real life, planes like that screaming over the heads of women and children about to be strafed or bombed might not seem as fun as I though. Suddenly, the show of might became very distasteful and I never went to see them again.
