I didn't quite make it to 1000 signatures (764), but I hope this initiative to require these dictators to label their food products as GMO is on the Nov. ballot in CA. I am so friggin sick of Monsanto (and ADM-Archer Daniels Midland) and their strong-arm tactics against common agri-business people. I don't know if there are enough signatures at this time, but I hope there is. I want these people to be held accountable.
Below is excerpt from RSN with link to full story. Check in if you are as sick of Monsanto as I am.
For nearly two decades, Monsanto and corporate agribusiness have exercised near-dictatorial control over American agriculture, aided and abetted by indentured politicians and regulatory agencies, supermarket chains, giant food processors, and the so-called "natural" products industry.
Finally, public opinion around the bio tech industry's contamination of our food supply and destruction of our environment has reached the tipping point. We're fighting back.
This November, in a food fight that will largely determine the future of what we eat and what we grow, Monsanto will face its greatest challenge to date: a statewide citizens' ballot initiative that will give Californians the opportunity to vote for their right to know whether the food they buy is contaminated with GMOs.

(53,339 posts)I'd looked up locations to sign and found a local fair and a health food restaurant in my community. Before I went there, though, I was at an Occupy L.A. immigration/foreclosure protest and somebody had the petitions there. Serendipity!

(8,554 posts)Just mention the words "GMO crops" around here and you'll get one good earful on the subject, from most farmers. My county is a major world supplier of vegetable seed and those seeds become totally worthless if the plant is contaminated with GMO pollen from another field.

NEW YORK March 28, 2012 Today, in Federal District Court in Manhattan, family farmers filed their Notice of Appeal to Judge Naomi Buchwald's February 24th ruling dismissing Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association et al v. Monsanto. The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will hear the farmers' appeal, seeking to reinstate the case, which has received worldwide attention. The farmers are determined to move forward with their lawsuit challenging Monsanto's patents on genetically engineered seed technologies in order to continue their pursuit of Declaratory Judgment Act court protection from Monsanto's claims of patent infringement should their crops become contaminated by Monsanto's seed.
