Canadensis, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Police in Pennsylvania appeared to be closing in Friday night on the suspect in the slaying of a state trooper.
Police have surrounded a home where Eric Matthew Frein is believed to be hiding, a local government official told CNN. The home, which was broken into, is not far from Frein's family home in Canadensis, in the Poconos Mountains.
Police exchanged gunfire in the area with an individual believed to be Frein, the official said.
Manhunt continues for alleged cop killer
State police asked residents in the Price and Barrett townships of Monroe County to stay inside their homes due to the police activity. The public was asked to stay away from windows and not to travel to the area.

(44,576 posts)and a grudge against law enforcement...His FBI most-wanted poster describes him as a "...weapons enthusiast, and a survivalist. He claims to have fought with Serbians in Africa, and he has studied Russian and Serbian languages."
State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said..."He has very strong feelings about law enforcement and seems to be very angry with a lot of things that go on in our society."
...Frein has an apparent fascination with Eastern European armies, their history and attire. His simulation group -- which Bivens declined to name -- would stage re-enactments using Airsoft guns. In this case, though, authorities say Frein is using live ammunition and shooting to kill.
I read yesterday that Frien is the son of a retired Army officer. If he's is so fascinated with the military that he does re-enactment exercises, why isn't he in the real military doing it for real?

(7,234 posts)During the Dorner manhunt they shot at completely 3 innocent people. In NY they shot also shot 3 people to get at one unarmed man and again in NYC they shot 8 people to get one man with a gun.

(7,234 posts)They are both psychopaths who love killing people especially those who can't defend themselves or are unarmed.
Only difference is one has full immunity from prosecution while the other doesnt but they share the same mentality.

It just got more confusing.

(44,576 posts)His father is a retired military officer. There's no indication of what he does for a living, but they say he plays paintball war games for fun. I've been wondering if he didn't wash out as a solider and/or is in conflict with his father and thus has problems with authority figures in general.

(44,576 posts)The burst of activity followed a long night that included reports of gunfire and police telling residents to stay in their homes...Al and Debbie Mundy spent the night in their pickup after going out for groceries Friday night. When they got to the end of the road, a state trooper told them they would not be permitted back into the neighborhood. "They would not let us turn around to go a quarter-mile back to our house," Al Mundy said...
Authorities Friday night closed roads in the wooded neighborhood of Barrett Township, in the Pocono Mountains, as they searched for 31-year-old Eric Frein, described as a self-taught survivalist with a grudge against law enforcement and government.
So nothing came of the stakeout of the house they thought he'd broken into? And a 31-year old survivalist who grew up in a military family is still living with his parents?

The search for Frein entered its 20th day...
State police say two troopers...from the Harrisburg barracks entered a...tree stand...about 20 feet off the ground to make sure the structure was unoccupied. Trooper Thomas Kelly says the floor collapsed and both men fell to the ground. They were treated and then flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center, where they were treated and released...
Hunting and trapping has been banned in seven northeastern Pennsylvania townships...one day after state police revealed that two pipe bombs were found in the woods where Frein is believed to be hiding.
