Pretty soon, you won't be considered a criminal for carrying around a little weed in Philadelphia.Philly Mayor Michael Nutter confirmed Monday that he will sign a bill into law that will make his city the largest in America to decriminalize marijuana possession, Philly Mag reports. Essentially it softens the penalty for such an offense from possible jail time to a $25 fine...

The entire point being "don't light up in JFK Plaza and blow smoke at a cop" (or anyone else).

did pretty much the same. The District Attorney of that county stated that he would no longer prosecute people for simple possession of an ounce or less of weed. Since he wouldn't prosecute, the LEO agencies in that county stopped arresting people for it. There was no point in arresting people for something they would have to go to court for.

I remember very well the scent of marijuana in the air in parks and other public places after that.
