cops stop car rushing shot teen to hospital. delay car until he dies.

Gerardo's girlfriend, Destiny Chavez, and several friends put him in a car and were rushing him to an emergency room when their car was stopped by San Jose police near Story and South White roads, said the suit filed by attorney John Burris on behalf of Gerardo's father, Fernando Medina.

"Instead of rendering aid and calling for medical assistance," officers conducted a felony car stop without reasonable suspicion that anyone inside had committed a crime, the suit said.

Officers removed the passengers and questioned them, "despite their pleas for the officers to help decedent Medina," the suit said. "The defendant officers then dragged decedent Medina out of the car before finally summoning medical assistance for him."

Gerardo died at Regional Medical Center in San Jose. The lawsuit said officers were to blame for delaying medical care "that could have saved decedent Medina's life."

Carrying assault rifles in a grocery store is wrong and so is allowing a human being to die of gunshot wounds.

One can be concerned about both.

On both occasions no shots were fired, no laws broken, it's just a stupid show of stupidity and gun nuttiness.

But to call for a national boycott of the 75% union staffed chain???

I call that kind of national scale "activism" misplaced nuttery.

Each store is free to form their own policy against it, so people should ask for that from their local Kroger manager, I'm fine with that.

And it's Bloomberg, the "Stop and Frisk" racist RW former NYC mayor funding it.

I don't think that's on my list of multitasking things I want to support.

It's about the open carry movement in general which is ridiculous and frightening, especially to children.

Our young ones are being taught that openly walking around with a rifle, a weapon used for swiftly killing fellow human beings, is noble and manly...

What has become of this country? It's awful how we glorify violence. There is no other industrialized country on earth with this the amount of guns/gun deaths.

"Look at that clown over there, we'd better get out of here and go home to call the store manager or police."

As opposed to trying to intimidate an entire chain and expect the world or the government to make us "feel" safer.

We can talk to our kids, they are smart enough to know that, in the super rare event that they see a man with a rifle, that they know he's either a danger or an asshole.

Now how hard would that be to do?

OUR HEAVILY ARMED AND MILITARISTIC POLICE FORCE IS A FAR GREATER THREAT THAN ISIS EVER WAS OR WILL BE!!!!! YOU ARE FAR MORE LIKELY TO GET KILLED BY POLICE OR LOCKED UP IN A FOR PROFIT PRISON THAN YOU ARE TO BE KILLED BY A TERRORIST!!!!!

They'll either delay the ambulance responding in for 15-20 mins while they pretend that they're looking for the bad guy who is long gone OR if you try to transport your buddy out they'll do exactly what they did here AND they'll label you as being uncooperative if you don't answer their questions even if you're bleeding out and can barely stay awake.

Most police officers are the scum of the earth.

If you or a love one gets shot in a low income neighborhood. DO NOT wait for help to come because it won't until you bleed to death. The best option is to load up and head to the hospital on your own and DO NOT pull over if they get behind you.

You're dealing with cold psychopaths who will stand around and have a chat with each other while you bleed to death. They won't even bother to offer you basic life support.

She probably assumed the police officer would have been intelligent enough to assess the situation, and then escort them to the hospital in a safer and quicker manner. In hindsight, I'm sure she's thinking of all the things she could have done (like calling 911 to tell them of the situation as she continued driving), but in the moment we don't always think clearly.

which is a legitimate cause to pull them over. And it wouldn't be surprising to suspect a bunch of teens of lying about why they were speeding.

It really depends on how long it took for them to call for medical assistance.

PSA: if you have a medical emergency, call for an ambulance. You may be able to get somebody to the hospital faster than the ambulance can retrieve them and get them to the hospital, but the ambulance will be able to alert traffic of their presence and the EMTs will be able to render potentially life-saving emergency treatment en route.

38. Takes brains: Officers then dragged Medina out of the car
Sat Sep 6, 2014, 07:09 PM
Sep 2014

This SF Gate article makes it clear, this Keystone Cops traffic stop resulted in aggravation, not in line with the charter's words "progressive and professional organization dedicated to maintaining community partnerships," and should be held up for public scrutiny. That poor girl deserves a public apology if not some citizenship award. Soldiers, who we see in the news turning Iraqi schools into armed camps, are always taught to cooperate with local law enforcement back home (with dismal results.) Destiny Chavez was driving while latino; presumably and thankfully without a high and tight. What California officer wouldn't know it's never his/her job to touch, much less handle, a gunshot wound victim? Thankfully the well researched and written coverage leaves one with only one possible interpretation. The conclusion (to quote an old song) will not be televised.
