Help Me Here - Would The CIA Carry Out Torture On Their Own Or Did They Have Orders/Permission......

to carry out torture (enhanced interrogation)? It seems to me that they would have had to have permission and that permission would have had to had come from BushCo.

Could this report and the Presidents comments the other day on torture be moving this in a direction that points the finger at BushCo?

then throw the blame all over bu$h/cheney. It's going that way now. Obama put a stop to it because it was illegal the world over.

He also authored the so-called Torture Memos, which concerned the use of what the Central Intelligence Agency called enhanced interrogation techniques including waterboarding.

the answer you are asking, is to conduct a thorough investigation, take this massive crime to a court of law, with witnesses and accused where the public can see for themselves just who was the final arbiter of these crimes. My guess is it will all lead back to Cheney and his 'secret government'.

Did they have such orders under Bush? Definitively.

Yes and yes.

My thought is there have always been individuals in the CIA who committed torture. However, it probably wasn't an official institutional policy until BushCo. My guess is Cheney ordered it, John Yoo crafted the" legal " justification. I think all parties concerned know their legal defense is extremely thin... and I think they cut a deal with Obama. Thats the only reason I can see for Obama covering for them (blocking the investigation, etc.)

Seems to me the fact that he spoke about it in his press conference the other day is a way to get this all re-introduced back in the public eye and then let people like us make a big deal about it so that they have to deal with it in the open and ultimately come to the conclusion that this was authorized by BushCo; it was a war crime and that they have to be prosecuted for their crimes.

Obama's cover then is - I tried to keep you guys (BushCo) out of it - but the American People have spoken - and I have to deal with it now.

... came from orders at the top, the very top. If Brennan wasn't carrying out Obama's orders, he'd have been fired.
The recent "admission" is merely a friday pm news dump, trying to get ahead of the story and put his spin out there.

I'm going to watch and see how this plays out now and how the Senate treats this. I think it is time for the American People to become incensed about this and demand some action be taken. I'm thinking that if this happens it would no doubt lead to BushCo and there would be no way to prevent Obama from moving on them. He'd be obligated to as the President to take some action.

After all in his comments the other day - he admitted that it was wrong. This is just my humble opinion.

based in the intelligence community, that answers to no one--not Congress, not the president, not the American people.

On edit: I also think the Cheney/Bush administration was all-in with the worst elements of the rogue agencies, and that they loosened any restraints that might have remained on such operations.

that came out of the Cheney's office. The CIA were far from alone in torturing. It became common among military interrogators.
Torture has occurred in the past. The difference is that it was officially sanctioned by the White House under Bush, but of course they did not admit it was torture. They called it "enhanced interrogation."
