General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsShould there be a separate Forum for Sex Play/Talk?
I've been noticing a lot of discussion on sexual issues here recently.. Don't know if it's seasonal or trendy now? Lot's of subject headings decrying or defending something related.
Seems like there should be a separate Forum for this, like Religion, Guns etc.
Just curious, anyone else think the same?

I think all Fifty Shades and Sex Threads should go over there.
I just saw the trailer for that stupid movie, and it said it wasn't coming out until VALENTINE'S DAY 2015....does that mean we're going to have to put up with these threads for another half year?

(8,311 posts)Either way, GD won't be filled with people making value judgments about other people's sex lives, which can tend to get me livid enough to overshare.
BainsBane
(53,137 posts)tells me you have no understanding of at least half of the debate. Create a group like that if you want. I won't participate, which I'm sure many will see as a plus.
2banon
(7,321 posts)And I don't care to see these headings in GD. I don't want to see my crafts discussions posted on GD, I'm happy that there are forums, for my music posts, appalachian discussions, crafts, foods in separate forums which I am subscribed to.. When I want to see discussions on those topics, I'm happy there's a special forum for those topics. The philosophical or sociological underpinnings of Sex Matters ought to have it's speial place just like Religion for instance, or books and lit. whatever. my opinion.
BainsBane
(53,137 posts)because you may be uninterested in gender violence, but many of us are, principally because it affects the lives of so many of us.

(7,820 posts)That's pretty much what the issue was around these 50 Shades threads. Is the book glorifying/eroticizing sexual violence/abuse and is that a problem if it is. And whether thinking there were larger issues at stake equalled wanting censorship. And yes, that drifted into some general discussions about BDSM, and how the books portrayed or didn't portray that. This wasn't just fun porn talk.

(56,912 posts)wrong with having a group for these types of discussions/conversations.
I can see where it might go off the rails ... but, if we can reinvent DU into DU3 I don't see where there is the harm in trying something different. Notice the change in Hosting and the change from six to seven jurors ... DU is constantly reinventing it self.
TDale313
(7,820 posts)It would depend on how it was handled and what was considered proper for that group. Also, how strict rules would be about topics appropriate there not bleeding into GD would be. What I would hate to see happen would be important issues, especially ones regarding rape or sexual violence, get banished to a sub forum on par with the gungeon. Handled correctly, I've got no major issues with the basic concept.

(56,912 posts)I hate the term "sexual violence" but, I guess consensual BDSM is what it is ....
But, political discussions involving women and the government definitely belong in GD. Yes.

(355 posts)have never read and one for people who criticize it but have never read it, because apparently different rules exist. And then another for people who assume anyone voicing criticism has never read the book because those people apparently have trouble not jumping on a bandwagon of other people crying "book-burner." And one for people who think you have to read every word written in a genre to be able to take issue with certain themes specific to that genre.

(9,154 posts)Has anyone else noticed that the 50 Shades threads started up about the same time as the Israeli actions? I'm wondering if it's all been just a big distraction, keep your thoughts on the genitals instead of the bombs and aggression in Israel and Palestine.
2banon
(7,321 posts)Not that THAT is news, but it seems like they're really pushing forward really lame stories up front to get all "excited" about, but burying the Israeli bombings of Gaza way late after a few stories following "the commercial break" in between weather and sports. That's what's I'm noticing in the media.
