The haters were out in force this morning, protesting against Central American children receiving services at Kids Peace - a not-for-profit organization which provides help to children in crisis.
People who support caring for children were outnumbered but we did our best to dilute the hate, and the hate was on full display. One woman had a sign urging motorists to not support upcoming Kids Peace fundraisers. At one point, they people waving confederate flags led a prayer through a bullhorn. Too bad Jesus didn't weigh in with His opinion of their antics.
When we left I had to walk my kid up the side of the road with no sidewalks and across four lanes of traffic. We couldn't use the crosswalk to get back to Kids Peace because at least one of the anti-immigrant haters was carrying a gun.

(12,723 posts)go back to Mexico if they loved it so much. Typical hate filled asshole leading the charge. America is getting so fucking ugly that only the most desperate people in the world would want to move here. Me, I want to get the hell out and may yet do so. The next two elections will determine the true course of this nation. I have hope but I have had it dashed before.

(3,920 posts)a bit of an insult to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Don't you think the Commonwealth of Kentucky or you can survive something that isn't even a clear or any other kind of insult? I live in California and over the years it's been called all kinds of insulting things. We survive just fine.

(51,311 posts)And that NOBODY IN THE ENTIRE STATE uses the term "Pennsyltucky" except people who actually forget we are BLUE.

(25,543 posts)I believe that I qualified to say that that area is North Appalachia.
Demit
(11,238 posts)Democrats activists who gather to try to get out the vote talk about that area all the time & use the shorthand 'Pennsyltucky'.
If you'd stop being so mightily offended for a moment by a clever neologism, you'd concede that the area between Pittsburgh & Philadelphia is most decidedly NOT blue.

(51,311 posts)WE ARE BLUE. CHECK YOUR PRESIDENTIAL STATISTICS.
NOT TO MENTION THE IDIOTIC "LOGIC" THAT CALLS A TOWN "RACIST" WHEN WE HAVE AN ACTUAL ORGANIZATION TAKING IN CENTRAL AMERICAN CHILDREN.** WHAT'S YOUR TOWN DOING?
OR IS KIDSPEACE "PENNSYLTUCKIAN," TOO?

(25,543 posts)Have you looked at the county by county maps of the 2012 election? Philly, Pittsburgh, and the Scranton area are blue. Everywhere else is pretty red. That is why we use the hybrid term Pennsyltucky - to denote the divided attitudes in the Commonwealth.

(6,819 posts)In the 2012 Presidential election in PA, almost all of the counties that are heavily populated went blue, including many suburban counties. Romney won all of the counties that have more deer than people.
We have a Rep. Governor who was elected because his opponent ran a weak campaign and because Dems stayed home in 2010 because they were pissed at the economy. That Repub consistently runs 22 points behind his Dem opponent for the upcoming election.
We have one moderate Dem Senator and a Rep Senator who just barely won (in that same 2010 election with horrible Dem turnout).
Our legislature and Congressional members are majority repub because of severe gerrymandering. The Dem candidates for US House in 2012 received more votes than the Repub candidates in total, but it didn't matter because the Dems and minorities were all ghettoized into five districts. If Dems turn out in Nov, the Dems have a very good chance of recapturing the State Senate, which is now very close.

This is a strange and dangerous time. The most hateful among us have crawled out from under their rocks, and believe they have license to spew ignorance and rage.
Be safe. Be strong. And keep up your good work.
