The US has ALWAYS been "adventurous" in Central America & the Caribbean...and has pretty much gotten away with it because the governments are tumultuous and the people mostly do not speak English..
The problem is that once we have wrecked the economies of those small countries and we have installed corrupt (compliant with the US) leaders, the ordinary people suffer...They have no voice in government, they have no money, they have no way to farm & feed their families, educations for the kids is sketchy at best, so their only chance at survival is escape..
OUR government has the luxury of saying "Wow, that was a mistake..glad we left"..and then we move on to bigger & better without a thought or care about what a mess we made of someone else's country..
The one phrase that drives me nuts is "Let's look forward.. we cannot dwell on the past"..
