JEFFERSON CITY | Three Democratic lawmakers donned hoodies on the floor of the Missouri House Thursday morning to protest the killing of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed Florida teenager who was shot to death last month by a neighborhood watch volunteer.
Reps. John Rizzo of Kansas City, Steven Webb of Florissant and Chris Carter of St. Louis said their only goal was to send the message that justice has not been served in Martins death.
Its important people understand the injustice that has gone on, Rizzo said. Thats what this was about.
The neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Martin, Gary Zimmerman, told police the African American teen looked suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie. He admits shooting Martin but says he did so in self defense.
