"I can tell you that we had one of the most rigorous and transparent legislative processes that I have witnessed in almost 3 decades here in the Congress. We worked with some of the brightest, most thoughtful and experienced constitutional lawyers in order to make sure that the law was constitutional."

It's like he thinks we either weren't paying attention, or have a memory as long as a toothpick is wide.

On one hand you have Nancy Pelosi saying the bill needs to be passed so we can know what's in it. On the other hand, the promise that President Obama "will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days" gets tossed out the window like so much trash. The bill was passed on 3/21 and signed with much fanfare on 3/23.

I suspect the three Senators were trying to counter all the negative reports as much as they can.

They sound like they are judging it on how it will affect corporate profits.

Lower corporate profits, kill it. Kill the whole thing.

To hell with the constitution and to hell with the rights of citizens.

It sounds more political than judicial.

Or at least presented the argument to the court. I don't think it's going to matter, these guys are going to vote party line and not Constitution.

...I have no doubt it's a great video. But unfortunately, no matter how good it is, Kerry doesn't have a vote on the Supreme Court, so watching it will only make me more depressed.

12. Is there a counter group to the Federalist Society?

I'm in my second year of law school. We have a very active Federalist Society. Is there a progressive equivalent to that group?

The apparent total out-classing of Donald Verrilli by the impressive Paul Clement prompts me to write. I know Clement came up in the Federalist Society, and I know how important the Federalist Society has been to the tremendous success conservative justices have had advancing their interpretation of the Constitution over the past decade.

My fear is we have been and remain out-organized in the legal realm. I would like to do what little I can to help change that.

Again, I'm looking for a progressive equivalent to the Federalist Society.

Additionally I'd appreciate any book recommendations regarding progressive efforts to respond to the recent conservative judicial ascendance.

Thanks so much for your replies!

But the Center for Constitutional Rights comes to mind.

I don't think it's really the opposite though.

I hope there is one because you make a great case for the need for one. It does seem that the right with their many "think" tanks and their echo chamber really has given them an advantage. Good luck in finding one and possibly joining one.

Sorry Senator that one (not all) of the people in MA that support the President is giving your comments a hard time on your Facebook page. You support our President and it doesn't seem to be good enough. Go figure.

People will pile on me for saying that but it is JAO.

Unfortunately, we know how Roberts, Scalito, and Fathead will decide.

I looked at the page and, not unexpectedly, there are both positive and negative comments - and one truly weird post from a good looking young man saying he hates how he looks like Kerry. There was no negative post that suggested the writer supported Obama - to the contrary all but one were clearly right wing and likely hate Obama at least as much. The two that weren't dealt with the cost of healthcare insurance. The complaint would be expressed to Obama at least as much as Kerry - as Obama had more say on the bill. ( One of the other posters very nicely responded to the first woman).

This is likely the 1000th plus time you have made that comment. You have been making it since Obama was elected. The fact is Kerry got 66 % of the vote in MA the last time - his 6th state wide election. (Not to mention, Kerry got 62% of the state's vote when he ran for President - the same percent Obama got in a year that favored the Democrats far more than 2004. )

that I have been seeing here and in social media since Obama was inaguarated and just feel it needed to be pointed out. (The person that wrote that comment about not affording it like President and First Lady on Facebook). Case in point this thread.

It does not matter what the Senator does. It will never be good enough.

If half of MA people lived in TN, then they would see how it is down here. They ought to be glad they have public servants that actually give a flip about them.
